[spoilers] The 49ers: Sanctimony and Public Defecation

Step 1: Burn far too many axes killing a bowman on a hill to capture a fairly worthless autorazed city.

Step 2: Marvel at the joy of Flanking II on a horse archer and get lots of withdraws.

Step 3: Badly maul the defenders, but accept that because of charismatic he'll have promotions (auto-promote didn't screw me yay).

Step 4: ???

Step 5: Profit.

So, on the subject of that "profit"...Cornflakes wiped the little four horsemen stack to his northwest, as I kind of expected. What I didn't so much expect was a bad series of low-hit combats that broke badly, if not entirely improbably.

As seen, though, managed to kill myself a front city. Right call, as that horse archer and the war elephant/catapult stack would have made things even more expensive had I delayed more.

You might have noted the buried lede that was Fintourist killing off Elkad down there, which puts his first-rate military unoccupied below Cornflakes. First rate? Yeah, third-ranked power now:

Well I suppose that's one way to reduce maintenance costs & help your economy out wink
Hopefully razing Candlesticks & Elkad's elimination gives enough security that Cornflakes isn't able to press before you can regroup.

Well, I lost my supermedic, but I can definitely regroup enough unless he gets a *huge* stack. The economy is already much better.

It does, a bit!

Out of curiosity, does Auld Yumna have any infrastructure at all, other than Walls?

Ugh, of all the Krillmod changes, fricking unpillagable villages are my least favorite. This was 30-60 gold that I can't plunder. And now this garrison is going to eat my sword-and-chariot here. I offered peace; this is a duel I can win, but not before Fintourist makes it to tanks.

If there was ever a tile improvement that needed a buff from vanilla Civ4, it was the cottage.

Ach, well, peace broke out regardless. I'd be bummed, but to be honest, fighting Cornflakes just weakens both of us while giving Fintourist an ever freer hand. And the peace does have it's benefits. Note the current demos....

Yeah, that's only gonna get better. Operation Fiscal Jackhammer is finally paying dividends. Look ma, I have cottages:

I feel like I didn't mention this when I got the city, but Carthage (now cheekily renamed Philistine Yell) had an additional little boon that's been helping, a settled Great Scientist. My own stolen great person, most likely a prophet for the Temple of Solomon, will be out soon.

Now I just need to hold what I have. Although darned if India isn't tempting me, the tart.
