RB's Magic the Gathering Thread!

Well, I'm on winning streak on Ranked Standard in Arena so I'm completely happy with standard at the moment. No complaints here. Ask me again in a few days.

But is it really fun to face wilderness reclamation or cat oven every other round?

I haven't yet, but I'm only in Platinum. If I do face one of those decks I'll tell you how it goes.

You just have 8 (?) years of Commander precon power creep instead. When my playgroup kept on getting destroyed by my lightly tuned precons (and that was Freyalise - I had Nykthos but not Cradle, Worldspine Wurm but not Craterhoof, etc), I realized there was a problem. The “free if you control your commander” cards show that WOTC wants powerful stuff for Commander but doesn’t want to touch their other formats with those products.

CheaterHater, I think you lay out the issues correctly - and M21 gives me some hope that they’re adjusting, but they need to sustain that for 3-4 sets before I ease off my power level concerns.

Limited is on a whole other level these days - they’ve made a lot of very good commons and uncommons and it shows.

I just got an Embercleave with Ashiok's Erasure.

Oh how I wish it would have the same effect on all Embercleaves forever more...

Yeah, Standard isn't fun (especially since you have to grind it on Arena for it to mean anything)--my Knights deck was so fun, but if you aren't running one of the broken engines there's no point. Part of me wants to start exploring Historic, but I need to wait for Jumpstart (and Amonkhet) to show up for it to be meaningful (though at least the Nexus banning means it's reasonable now).

Well, I've gone from Gold to Mythic in about 4 days on Arena playing Standard, so I'm having fun. It's also nice that I did it with a homebrew.

Is anyone else trying out the Standard 2021 on Arena? I've actually been really enjoying it so far, a lot more room for brewing with some of the more oppressive decks not in there.

I haven't, though it seems interesting. All of my recent Arena time has been playing Amonkhet Remastered; I'm doing extremely well in it (almost back up to Diamond, and would be higher if I wasn't so busy), and with a wide variety of decks to boot (obviously a RW aggro deck, but also a removal-filled RG deck, a WB not-zombies deck somehow, and a UW control/mill deck).
