[SPOILER] vanrober and BAII

Done construction and making some catapults.

I had some doubts about the city of the island. yesterday i saw GKC with a settler and an axe in that island and in the same turn but after him i put a setller and an archer a worker and an axe. The thing is I played today before and i could settle in the non forest tile and with cre take the seafood some time after, and also that could stopped GKC of settling in the island. That double turn im not sure if its legal since we are not in war, maybe i could do that but then i would pissed him off and im behind enough to make some more enemies, so i decided to move my settler into the other hill so if he settles in that spot i can settle in this spot and i dont bother him that much. I also offered a claims for claims trait to show him my not bothering mood i have. I hope he understand that like that.

In this picture i hope you understand what i meant:

Also lost the fur i was trading with gira, since he is being conquered. so i got some cities with unhappiness.

At least im getting the silver of the island soonish.

That's very generous of you. Over at civforum.de, we'd let the referee roll a dice if you would've wanted to place the city this turn on the middle tile. The problem now is that GKC could even move his settler this turn on your archer because his axe surely will scout to the west.

Catapults! Good.

And what would happen if he moves to west? i mean im building there the cit to give him a spot in the ireland with the seafood. I thougth he wanted to settle there. If we want to settle in the middle i will settle first. Unless he double turn. That could happen i hope it doesnt.

I hope to get a stack of catapults since im seeing mjmd losing too many cities and gira too. They might want to come to me afterwords.

Just received a PM of GKC

Wanted to clarify that we are NOT in a settling race, I will withdraw the axe/settler. You are free to move at any point, we are not in a turn split.

Im not really sure if he refused to settle and its pissed of and planning to destroy me or he saw i didnt want to bother him. I just told him that i wasnt sure of how to act since im new.

Im pretty scared, people alredy got guilds and im almost with warriors, if he is planning to conquer that land i should get a bunch of things in that city, but im kind of unable to defend my land and this city too.

So i found the city in the next city tile, since i didnt want to get another turn into the hill to settle.

Also got the fill city too. And im not sure if i should get them a granary or a ikhanda first, or maybe even walls. Not sure at all. Power looks terrifying, ramk asked for OB and i agreed, i think he might actually want to enter to see how undefended is my territory but ill try to make some impis inside his territory too to see if he is coming. Also though it might help to be kind with him and try not to bother.

I know my land is going to melt soon by any of them but the plan is to last as much as possible. For now im the green that is lasting more, but you know, thats not much xD.

also im thinking i was kind of unlucky, lazteuq has a gold mine at 3 tiles of capitol and also ivory and gems, so he has no unhapiness problems on early, also plenty of flood plains for cottage. El grillo kind of the same, but having destroy amicalola and picking his territory helped him too much. The thing is i felt (obv with my skill as bottleneck) thet i had no happy resources nor gold ones that actually help me investigating. I mean, like the best starting points were where the pros were. Maybe im wrong. This is my first game and not much knowledge of the game.

Im now building catapults in almost all of my territory as you can see in this pic:

Lets try to be the last of the greens in dieying xD

Edit: Should i keep trying of growing cottages or should i start just produce as fast as possible so i can get more units coming?

You should generally work cottages and whip mines away (except those with copper/iron/precious metals). That's why you cannot afford working farms - they contribute too little versus a grown cottage for one population. Try to build some sort of stack with catapults and mopping up-units which will be mainly axes, sadly. I know it's a bit counterintuitive, but when you have unhappiness in a city, execute a double (or even triple, but you don't have many projects that costly yet) whip.

How is the situation on Great Scientists? Maybe working towards a Golden Age would be worthwhile.

I put a scientist as academy in the capitol some turns ago and now not working any scientist to build catapults. Ill make a scientist or try in the city with more food.

I just have ivory as happy resource, eventhough im trying to get the silver quickly to get more happy, i builded some merc to get happy but you told me its not a good invest for hammers. Im trying to whip but working on cottages instead of mines, not sure if its worth.

whiped a bunch of catapults in the next turn and hope to make another bunch soon. Still compromised on unhappyness but hope that the silver helps. Also made 3 ppl whip for some catapults so i hope that helps the unhapiness. My area has a lot of food i think, so my cities are growing kind of fast. the problem is the happy.

This are the cities getting the catapults and still the new ones with ikhandas to get some more gold, im getting just 30g at 0% so my economy is crushed.

the power start showing im making something.

What you can do, apart from begging/trading for silver, is to beg strong civilizations which are not your neighbors for money. Plemo or Lazteuq for example. Maybe they are interested in strengthening their neighbor's neighbor.

Yes, you absolutely have enough food, that's why farms are unnecessary too and cottages are most important.

"Im trying to whip but working on cottages instead of mines, not sure if its worth."

Yes it is but keep in mind that you don't whip away strong commerce tiles such as grown villages.

How much gold you feel is "strong commerce"? 3? 4?

Dont i need the silver for my happy? You can see my cities are capped at 4 pop which i feel little, and if i keep whiping for catapults they will have lower caps. Also not sure how much gold could i ask them for the silver

I meant that they should trade (of gift) you their silver or other happy resources. Maybe someone is interested in strengthening you. It's very important that you use the whips as double whips in order to gain production but take it easy on your happiness. Then the city can slowly grow back to the original size and you can execute another double whip. With double whips you gain double the amount of production per unhappiness than with a single whip.

Well, "strong commerce" depends and you have to decide. The important bit is that you can't afford working farms and mines (except the metal ones) because you need commerce. At the same time it's very possible that someone is declaring war on you, so you should ty to find a balance between mustering forces and focusing commerce. A Golden Age, even when some turns away, can be very helpful for that.
