And he'd say this every time, even when it wasn't true. I just learned how to be better at aggression, cripple one, block another, eat the third. I trusted my luck and my poor buddies started to fear my luck too. And I won most dogpile RISK games. In those types of games, it will probably surprise neither of you to know that I was always the dick that convinced people my top rival was winning. Risk is a diplo game with some mild tactical considerations. (August 21st, 2020, 19:49)Gaspar Wrote: Pindicator, you're so well-balanced. I would be absolutely losing my mind right now if I were you. Last night after i read the PM from Mjmd I went through the following ideas: 1) Letting Mjmd have all my cities and continue to send everything after superdeath, burning his cities as I win out of spite 2) Letting Superdeath have all my cities and sending everything south to burn Mjmd's cities out of spite 3) Declaring war on Mr. Cairo and sending everything out to burn his cities because fuck everything I knew if I played with how pissed I was last night I was going to do one of those things. So I did all the venting in my forums posts instead. EDIT: Commodore, you remember clicking through all the demands I sent you in PB8?

Mjmd is the luckiest little shit! ![]() ![]() Code: Knight v CG3 Longbow (9.9%) - WIN I mean, WHAT THE FUCK kind of dice rolls are those!? Is it not lucky enough that the whole map was set up for you to just tech away in peace (Superdeath - Gira - me put in a triangle to his west; Charriu - AT - Jowy put in a triangle to his east) but then he gets to get favorable outcomes on every single battle and WIN SUB-10% ROLLS? Truly the Sullla maxim 'better to be lucky than good' has never applied more. The part that's really upsetting is he didn't even keep it! He's playing this so tentatively and messing up the war part. He could have ran 20 two-movers through my core before I'd have a chance to react, instead it's slowly walk up on the farthest cities from me and diddle around to let me react and move stuff back, but then raze anything he takes because the only reason he's doing this is to spite me? I stopped being competition 20 turns ago, and now I'm not even in the running any more. If he's not going to take stuff then why is he fighting me except for this whole reputation bullshit that I spouted off about last turn? Hey Jowy, why don't you sail a fleet around the world and land them over here? Everyone else is doing it! Two more knights showed up in behind, but because he isn't pushing and instead is wasting time I'll have time to whip in more defenders. ![]() I'll swap to more catapults here next round. I was a bit worried he could get Multnomah but I dont' think that's a threat now that he didn't push in. Down south: ![]() He just moved up. I guess he wants to try and push further in here and possibly claim land? And is he really going to take the extra time to bombard down the defenses at Harney? There's only 3 units there: he should just sacrifice a couple of horchers. Especially if he's going to win those battles anyway ![]() The war elephant promoted and didn't have odds on a knight so I healed it this turn. I have a suspicion he won't attack next turn but instead will bomb down city wall defenses, so I may have another shot with the guy. I am afraid he's going to burn Belisarius like he did Lake. Seeing a settler behind his troops isn't making me feel better about that. So in an attempt to make him feel confident I sent him a peace offer. Obviously he rejects it but hopefully it makes him overconfident and he doesn't burn that city. Hopefully he sees the two great generals in it and decides to keep it. There's no cultural pressure from the other southern cities on here. Great Person Update: ![]() I sped it up with a great scientist so I could get it in 2. 4 turns is too long to wait. Next turn I'll turn on science enough to get Engineering minus whatever a bulb should be, so that as soon as I bulb the tech I get the tech. Why bother though: We all know it's going to be a Great Scientist anyway. PRO: 40 (2523) FIN: 47 (2369) I've lost half my population over the last 8 turns.

This is starting to feel like PB8. Not the fun exodus part. The part after where everybody wanted a piece and I had to whip like mad all the time just to survive.

Truly the Sullla maxim 'better to be lucky than good' has never applied more. This is far enough in the past that it's not much of a spoiler - MJMD and charriu had an extensive conflict early on (although not as large as the one between you and SD or gira). As you put it, there hasn't been pushback since on MJMD from either gira or charriu, or the north by cairo, which is what I had gambled on. I probably should've placed Gira on the other side of the landbridge closer to MJMD. Those horcher odds are bs, just an other example of first strikes not doing their job. ![]()

I'm restoring all my old Dropbox links to PB31 and reminding myself of that awful, awful game. There are some gems in the lurker chat. Spacetyrantxenu put PB18 to rap lyrics. There was the Checklist of Ragequitting. And Noble reminded me about all the times I've been screwed by bad maps.

I really have had the worst luck with maps in the last 4 or 5 games I've played. I do remember rage-quitting and whipping all my cities to size 1. Shame I can't do that here since I've already teched Compass.
