Dreylin has Guilds in 4, SL just finished Philo, Darrell has Eng in 2, and I finish Gunpowder in 2. And I have enough gold for a further 2 turns of 100% research after GP, which is worth about 880, 900 beakers at the outside (adjusted).
Going to be funtrashing Dreylins' navy. Once Philo trade to Darrell goes through, we can trade the remaining techs and to hell what the others realise. They won;t be able to stop us.

Yup. I am toying with the idea of SoL/Rep/Merc if I want to tech though, which requires a detour to Democracy, and it does remove PS, but it does fit in with keeping slavery/CS, Vassalage and Theocracy. That was one of the plans I had in place for PB1 that I never got to implement, so I'm tempted to try it anyway just to see what happens. Unfortunately, can't do it for the ultimate junk city economy (AP rel building and free specs).
It all depends on what happens with the war with Dreylin, and how fast we are going through the tech tree. Faster we go through the tech tree compared to the either 3, more resources I will throw at military...
Basically, these are the three sets of civics I'm thinking of using:
PS/Vassalage/slavery/SP/Theo - ultimate kill them all civic set up.
Rep/Vassalage/CS/SP/Theo + SoL - tech off free specs (12 bpt/city + modifier) but also strong units
Rep/NH/CS/Merc/FR - Ultimate techer, NH for flexibility, cheaper than Bureau and Vassalage, and FS is worthless unless I swap to Culture victory.

Save is with SL and I am no more than 2 turns away from finishing Chem. SL is still 3 turns from finishing Education, just popped a GA IIRC so he can't bulb Edu, and Darrell is 4 turns from Lib.
oh goody. And I'm due a GP next turn for a possible GA after I've built Drydocks.
If only I had some decent bloody health, this would be perfect...prepping to build IW in Borderlands, currently chopping jungle with 3 workers to workshop it.
Beaker rate at break even is about 230-260 bpt, depending on emphasis. Over 400 at 100% (and 150 gpt costs). Without the Academy.
This game is going to be fun...

Chat with Dreylin. Basically, I've had fun with this game. I have played well enough, made few enough mistakes IMO, that I feel confident to say that either me or Darrell will win the game. Darrell has played a game that is at its' worst, solid, and has the diplomatic high ground because he has no enemies; I can't see Ruff and SL turning on him while I'm still as strong as I am. And now that Yaz has died, and Darrell has just surpassed me in the numbers of cities...and I need to go to war, revolting to civics, blowing a GA...and losing Henge/Collosus, Darrell is about to become number 1.
If I stay at peace, then there is always the chance that there is some other war later on (I could renounce the NAP with Darrell, for instance...but I won't do that unless there is a very big shakeup).
I'm not sure if Dreylin will go with peace, tbh. He tends not to...Taco et al.
But we did get Steel. Which is funny, really, becuase of the understatement in its arrival. Seems like we did build some good economies.
Quote:(10:19:15 PM) Krill: What can I say - the peace offer is as real as you want it to be.
(10:19:38 PM) Dreylin: yeah, but terms seem hard to come by
(10:19:54 PM) Krill: There is a word that comes to mind. Negoitiation.
(10:20:06 PM) Krill: Andcongratulations on the job btw.
(10:20:15 PM) Dreylin: yeah, which requires both sides to make counter-offers
(10:20:45 PM) Dreylin: I seem to remember making a ridiculous demand on my side, and was waiting for you to do the same
(10:21:08 PM) Krill: Whatwas yours again?
(10:21:25 PM) Krill: AllI remember was me asking for all of yours offshore islands
(10:21:50 PM) Dreylin: that was before you started the war
(10:22:05 PM) Dreylin: so when you asked for terms this time
(10:22:14 PM) Dreylin: I suggested you provide me with the same
(10:22:20 PM) Dreylin:
(10:22:24 PM) Krill: oh
(10:22:31 PM) Krill: I'd still like all of your offshore islands?
(10:22:39 PM) Dreylin: but you read it the other way, didn't you
(10:23:12 PM) Dreylin: I was suggesting that YOU give ME all YOUR offshore islands
(10:23:38 PM) Krill: lol
(10:25:34 PM) Krill: Ithink I'm more likely to get your islands than youare to get mine
(10:27:27 PM) Dreylin: well something tells me that either way they won't change hands through negotiation.
(10:27:50 PM) Dreylin: (as least not the sort that doesn't involve pointy sticks)
(10:27:58 PM) Dreylin: so what else you got?
(10:29:50 PM) Krill: offer of set length of peace of your choosing, resource trades, tech trades.
(10:31:18 PM) Krill: realistically either me or Darrell will win this game
(10:31:28 PM) Krill: so the question is how you want to play it out
(10:31:42 PM) Dreylin: So for example, you would be prepared to sign a blanket NAP for e.g. 20t with no other conditions?
(10:31:52 PM) Dreylin: why so eager to write me off?
(10:32:01 PM) Krill: Well, for two reasons
(10:32:19 PM) Krill: one is that I am going to hit you very hard
(10:32:27 PM) Krill: the other is that I'm then going to hit you even harder
(10:33:04 PM) Dreylin: Hmmm
(10:34:31 PM) Krill: As it is, I'm quite happy to go to war so the lurkers have a good game to watch.
(10:35:29 PM) Dreylin: So you've offered me peace
(10:35:34 PM) Dreylin: then threatened me
(10:35:42 PM) Dreylin: still waiting for the demands
(10:37:08 PM) Krill: All land south of Trebizond, an NAP until t200, and favoured nation status for all tech trades (either 1:1 base beakers or better in your favour).
(10:37:25 PM) Krill: oh, and those 2 islands to the north of my lands
(10:38:12 PM) Dreylin: Out of interest, how much land is there South of Trebizond?
(10:38:17 PM) Krill: got no idea
(10:38:27 PM) Krill: all I know is that there are some coasttiles there
(10:38:45 PM) Krill: but it shouldn't be an awful lot.
(10:39:26 PM) Krill: going much further south of where I can see would be tundra and ice
(10:40:05 PM) Krill: Basically, it would turn the game into a race to SS or culture.
(10:40:20 PM) Dreylin: Bleargh
(10:40:23 PM) Krill: well
(10:40:33 PM) Krill: the problem is Darrell won;t be attacking anyone else
(10:40:44 PM) Dreylin: really?
(10:41:14 PM) Krill: I know he won't attack Ruff or SL.
(10:41:25 PM) Dreylin: I'd have thought you two would be at each other's throats at some point
(10:41:26 PM) Krill: If they attackhim, whoknows
(10:41:51 PM) Krill: Meta game, perhaps.
(10:41:56 PM) Krill: perhaps we should
(10:42:23 PM) Krill: unfortunately, with 3 bystanders who could easily favour one over the other, neither of us has much reason to go to war
(10:42:47 PM) Krill: The diplomacy is pretty much at an Impasse
(10:42:54 PM) Krill: which is whathas screwed the game up
(10:43:16 PM) Dreylin: and I thought it was Yaz that screwed the game up!
(10:43:42 PM) Krill: That is Ruffs'fault...
(10:44:11 PM) Dreylin: Well we can play chase the blame after the game is over
(10:44:25 PM) Krill: yeah
(10:44:40 PM) Dreylin: So basically your offer amounts to:
(10:44:45 PM) Dreylin: I make you invulnerable
(10:44:54 PM) Dreylin: in return, you don't try to kill me
(10:45:07 PM) Dreylin:
(10:45:14 PM) Krill: I'll also offer to protect you from SL and Ruff.
(10:45:23 PM) Krill: but that doesn;t exactly mean much
(10:45:33 PM) Dreylin: just thinking that myself
(10:45:35 PM) Krill: because they aren't all that threatening
(10:46:04 PM) Krill: Perhaps yousee why war is pretty much inevitable, and it isn;t all of my chooosing
(10:46:49 PM) Krill: I'd be quite happy to play the war game, me and Darrell against the world, maybe even me and you against the others.
(10:46:56 PM) Krill: theoretically speaking
(10:47:47 PM) Dreylin: How long would I have to decide?
(10:48:02 PM) Dreylin: kind-of distracted right now
(10:48:45 PM) Krill: 4 turns?
(10:48:51 PM) Krill: seemreasonable?
(10:49:27 PM) Krill: I don't really know what I need to do in game, so not sure of the point of no return.
(10:50:22 PM) Dreylin: 4 of my turns, or 4 of yours?
(10:50:32 PM) Krill: of mine
(10:50:35 PM) Dreylin: (since I'm going to play fairly soon)
(10:50:42 PM) Dreylin: OK, sounds reasonable

Well, Astro is due in 5 turns, but I can speed it up a turn if I want. And with dry docks in all important cities...pop a golden age, revolt, build C3 frigates, and win. My economy is going to go through the floor, but at least the lurkers will have some fun
I stole the popcorn smily from an older civ forum, MZO.
The real second reason is that my units are going to have at least 1 extra promotion, but I wasn't going to tell Dreylin that. He'll find that out in good time.

...Darrell will pay for that backstab.
Quote:(6/3/2010 12:42:49 PM) Darrell: Krill I forgot to offer Banking last turn, please ask for it. Also my Bank came in so go ahead and for whatever gpt that puts you at 9 total.
(6/3/2010 12:43:17 PM) Darrell: re: Steel that is an awkward situation...try and catch me online today I will be back in about 1 hour
(7:03:55 PM) de krill of Fronce: ok, got 5-10 minutes before I get ready for work
(7:04:01 PM) Darrell: uh
(7:04:05 PM) Darrell: isn't it super late over there?
(7:04:13 PM) de krill of Fronce: I'm working nights now
(7:04:22 PM) Darrell: hmm...that must suck
(7:05:38 PM) Darrell: okay with respect to steel the unfortunate situation is I already have a deal in place. I realized at the time I made the deal it would Seriously Piss you Off, but I did it anyway for 2 reasons. Main reason is it helps my chances of winning the game since a) it will take you longer to kill dreylin, and b) I get techs out of them which helps me keep up with your ungodly GNP. Secondary reason is I will find it far more entertaing to watch you fight at tech parity (or near enough).
(7:06:39 PM) Darrell: I actually have to go now, and won't be back for about an hour
(7:06:56 PM) Darrell: Not sure if you have IM at work but if so we can continue, or if not some other time I guess
(7:07:04 PM) de krill of Fronce: tomorrowthen
