Possible changes/alternatives to the plan I posted above:

We can actually get another missionary out of the capital if you want, either right after the first, right before finishing the temple, or on T135; it would delay Sankore by one turn.

We might consider working the hamlet (and sometimes cottage) instead of plains farms. This would delay Sankore by a turn, but wouldn't otherwise affect the plan.

If we're willing to delay the Settler at HV, we can put some hammers into the "Market or Library or something" before starting the whip cascade. I don't think I recommend this. Note that the entire plan assumes that we want a Great Person out of Hukawng and wouldn't mind an engineer or priest. (I think this is correct.) If a Great Priest would be yucky, don't hire a priest - have him work a 2f+ tile instead.

If it were me, I'd delay HV's settler by a turn by firing the priest (this turn) and putting a second turn (each at 7 hammers/turn) into the Grocery next turn.

Also note that I threw this microplan together this evening, so it may not be optimal (at all) - but I think it's pretty okay.

True. Temminck is a much higher priority. When and if we have enough workers for our empire though, it should be noted that those jungles are helping to make those cities unhealthy.

Quote:It's already using the plains farm because (7+9+9+9 = 34) it facilitates an optimal double whip of a temple.
Not (necessarily) optimal - just maxing overflow; it's an important distinction. Assuming it's still gettin 9 hammers on the turn it's whipped, getting 7h this turn provides 1 base hammer of additional overflow over getting 6h this turn. I'd rather work a cottage this turn unless that one extra hammer of overflow is specifically important for something. Not a big deal though.

Sure. I'd advocate chopping a hindu monastery and temple into KILRAH if I dared. I like AP hammers. And if you're right that no one else is pursuing Sankore, that's all the sweeter.

Quote:What about a bhuddist one in FS?
Sure, when we get a chance.

You only have Fierias working 11 tiles. It's size 12. I assume you want it working a cottage for the 12th

I agree with firing the priest. Instead of working a 2f tile however, I have hired a citizen. Still gives us a hammer (not the single coin, but it's just a single coin), but doesn't pollute our GP pool. It's just for 3 turns, so I think it's worth it.

Actually, that was dumb. Didn't dawn on me till the turn rolled though. I have fired the citizen and am working a river plains tile.

Yeah, just noticed. Sorry 'bout that. The village/cottage is fine. I'll update the plan today.

Working a citizen (pretty much anywhere, pretty much ever) was indeed silly, but of course not the end of the world. If we're following the posted plan (building a courthouse this turn = T127) we'll just shrug and move on. If we're following my preferred plan however (putting a second turn into the Grocer this turn, though it delays all the builds by 1 turn, including the settler) we need to fire BOTH specialists this turn, and work ZERO hammer tiles, for the plan to work.

Unimproved Plains tiles are bad. Please don't work them. It's true that a citizen is worse, but that's saying precisely nothing. It's not such a big deal that we've worked them - this is just a tip/suggestion to optimize things. As I stated above, we don't need the priest hammers at HV anyway, and can safely just work 2f+ tiles instead.

Unimproved plains are indeed bad, unless you come up 1 hammer short of something, and I assumed that was the case from reading your micro plan. I was under the assumption the only real to delay the cascade was that it came up a couple hammers short of being able to complete the settler. I'm confused now. What exactly is the point of delaying things a turn? I'm sure there must be one, but what is it? Are we trying not to whip it down to far pop wise?

I will do as you say. Hopefully the 1 hammer difference between Engineer + Citizen vs Engineer X2 does not affect things.

So, are we working any specialists there at all the rest of the plan then? ie. you say fire both specialists this turn. Do we rehire the engineer starting next turn?

Right. So I threw together a spreadsheet.

[Image moved and improved; see next page.]

The spreadsheet isn't usable yet for stuff other than this specific plan, but if you can read and understand it, it'll save me tearing my hair out trying to write any future microplans out in text . (It does have a place to display specialists, not visible in this image, but some of the formulae are situationally jury-rigged.)

Text plan above being updated now....

spreadssheets are great. I guess I just need to spring for the money to buy a working copy of excel since mine is hopelessly borked. Trying to do that stuff on notebook paper... I tried. Epic fail...

Yes. This is my preferred plan, but not the one I posted. I posted the one that doesn't delay things because I assumed you'd like it better. We can continue to follow that one. I'll update it when I get the chance.

Yes. If we want to delay for more growth vs. later builds, we work NO hammers this turn except what the city generates naturally (city center + temple). After that, we hire an engineer again and keep him hired as long as you want. Any other hammers, from priests or otherwise, are strictly optional.

If we don't want to delay, just continue with the plan. The priest is still optional - no hammers other than those generated by the engineer, the whip, and the city itself are required.

I apologize for not making this sufficiently clear.

I'm not using Excel. I use OpenOffice.org for just about everything. It's semi-decent, and free. Google Docs is also usable and free and makes it easy to share.

I'm fine with delaying things the turn. I was a little unhappy whipping down to size 5 anyhow. I'm not in a rush to run the specs. I'd like a merchant or scientist from there really, but an Eng wouldn't upset me.
