OK, t90 update...I'm still at 12 cities, but up a couple of workers. I'mcurrently researching Monarchy, and will likely revolt immediately (to hell with OR, no early shrine and I'm niot making any buildings on even a small scale, it is just extra cost). Then I'm going to grow a few select cities, the rest stay as slave pumps. probably going to gro AA to work every posssible grassland, BB to work every possible hill, CC to the health cap, and HH to about size 7 to continually build workers near the front, same as FF, but FF is good, HH kinda sucky.
I'm currently working around 25 cottages or their derivatives, and this is my plan. Get as many cottages being worked as possible, even basic grassland ones, and each city I plant will be viable, about break even monetarily, in about 15 turns easy if it has a good food resource. With a few cities in the core grown as large as possible, working every posible grassland, tech should be sufficient to get me where I need to be, even without an Academy like Cyneheard has.

We called it a night at the start of t94. I'm up to 26 workers, have 14 cities and will have 15th in 3 turns. I'm quietly confident that with the short, 10 turn moratorium on building settlers because I'm growing cities I'll then explode out of the gate for the next phase of expansion, and an extra 260 worker turns between then and now will shore up my roads, cottages and chops quite nicely.
I need 6 settlers to fill in my "third ring", to use civ 3 parlance. While this is on going, I'm going to send as many workers and settlers as I can east, settling as many city sites as possible...trying to get more land than Cyneheard. That is where my mainfocus is on now, getting as many cities as possible, and working even more cottages to pay for it...to hell with courthouses.

on the flipside, just imagine how effective courthouses will be when you do build them!!

Oh well, up to 72 cottages, by t115. 33 workers, and 20 cities, and 108 pop points, and only 30 gpt at 0% science . I have a solid road network extending as far as my new city sites (I also have four settlers moving forward), and am paying through the nose for it all. It's all coming together...
However, I have already teched CoL (gotten the religion) and Alphabet, so I am building researching my hammer cities, Currency due in about 6 turns which is worth a further 20 bpt to me. I am also due a GP on t121, so Shrine t123 for a further 10 gpt, and I need to consider building monasteries or teching Mono, so I should be good up to 25 cities.
I'm considering when to move my Palace eastward, to a more central location. I'm going to do this no matter what, but I should probably do it sooner rather than later, which means tooling up another city as a hammer city...I think LL is the best city I can get atm, as I'll be placing the FP in the south, or moving the Palace again later after placing the FP in the perfect position in the north.
The bottom screen shot is a shot of the choke points on my side that lead into the central part of the map. My aim is to go and block off every one of these from Cyneheard by settling cities for them, and then rushing to block the south as well to back fill. We are going to end up having a nice settler and culture war after this, I think.

Looking at those last 2 pictures, I think I only need 6 cities, 2 of them with popped borders, to block off most of the map to the tundra in the south.
Well, that is where my workers are heading then, 4 to the bottom choke points, 4 to the top choke points, settlers to follow...

The center of the map is to the east of those screenshots, right? So are you heading to the mirrored locations of those shown in the screenshot?
I have to run.

As you can tell above, my road is about to cross over into Cyneheards' half of the map.

BTW, here is a link to a civ 3 game, a series of 1v1s hosted at Apolyton. The culture war that happened is a good reason why I don't want to let Cyneheard slip any settlers past the front lines. Just imagininghow much damage awellplace culture bomb could do is astonishing...running to Musicmight not be that bad an idea for Cyneheard, if I manage to plant the cities.

Can great artists move through enemy territory without open borders? Can they airlift? If not, a city in the enemy back lines seems doomed to flip.
