So GW2 won't be on my list. Too bad, since things are a bit of a loss on the arpg front right now. I played a bit of Torchlight, but it's too casual and cartoony for my tastes, so Torchlight2 doesn't seem that promising either. Maybe Grim Dawn (from some former Titan Quest developers with basically the same engine) will be a little grittier, but I also found TQ only a short term attention-holder. Borderlands was ultimately kind of shallow, I felt. Dragon Ages origin and Mass Effect 2 were fine for one play through. (Mass Effect 2 had great characters and settings but I was no fan of the "cover-fire" combat --- Borderlands did combat better.) I even went back to D2 after the 1.13 patch for a while and played a HC immolation-arrow-using amazon through to Guardian. Despite D2's appallingly bad graphics (even for the time it was released), it still has that something the other games lack for longevity. Too bad also that Flagship squandered their resources and fubar'd HG:L, because despite all of its appalling problems, I still played HG:L more than any of these other games. Anyway, guess that leaves D3 sometime near the end of 2011, I'm guessing. I actually like a lot some of the comments on the game philosophy I've read from the lead D3 designer, Jay Wilson, but then other things make me scratch my head a bit. So who knows if D3 will enhance the things that made D1 great, and D2 almost as great, or will throw them away and leave the WoW-style dregs. Ok, well this post did start off with a comment about Guildwars, so it's not entirely irrelevant for this forum.
