My understanding is that you don't get a Great Person if you only have 100 neutral GP points. Then as soon as you specify something you get one. But I've not tested that personally

As I remember Charriu talking about it, if the pool is full of neutral points it will spawn a random GP, but I haven't tested either.

I tested a bit during the pick phase, and Charriu, as always, is right. The GP is random. (Have I mentioned how impressively robust Civ4's code is? nod )

Does everybody get grass pigs but us?  cry

(And ancient luxuries 3 tiles from capital and floodplains access and...) GT offered open borders. I've offered it back, so I'm comfortable putting my scout by his axe. I wasn't sure whether to take this. I think on balance this is a good thing. I'm not that worried about him attacking me, and I'm not planning on attacking him any time soon.

In the wider world, people are teching Masonry of all things.

Maybe we've got a couple people gunning for the Pyramids? The earliest Masonry date that I saw was t67. How fast do you think that person could build the 'mids? (Important note: stone wasn't balanced on this map. You can see some between ljubljana and GT but none in my entire area. It's possible that the t67 person already has stone in his borders. That'd be a real kick in the teeth to anybody trying to race.)

Pretty neat that your path gives you a very fun toy to use to kick in the teeth of anyone who beats you.

Bulbing to a one-mover Machinery super unit and using it in an ill-advised war? That doesn't sound like Rusten and me...  mischief

Dropping half the mask for half a second, our completion date for our Project is good, but not Realms Beyond record pace. It's possible someone could beat us. Nature of a (semi?) random map. We don't know what people are working with.

We settled City #7:

This city has 8 forests in its BFC. Chopping all those with a +50% multiplier gets you 240 hammers. 320 hammers if you can swing a +100% multiplier. A nothing city like this could be a real wonder threat if a player were so inclined. I worry. I'm a worrier.

I've fallen for that trap before. Probably will again. It's a fun trap.

No. No it is not a fun trap. I still don't know how I survived that.

Horse archers.

Actually, Noafrogluger needs a newbie-friendly post on how insanely good horse archers are.

I also half-arsed it. If I had planned it better I could have had that stack 5-10 turns earlier
