I'll try to take a look tonight, but just a quick check I'm assuming you intentionally put all the stone on deserts?

This is just eyeballing, but Portugal doesn't look to have much safe territory. Any island that could have 2 cities is directly in confrontation with another player.
Arabia and American copper only have 2nd ring new food whereas others often have 1 or 2 first rings plus a 2nd ring. Horses are also a little unequal not that I think they matter a ton, but a couple have 2nd ring food vs 1st ring. For sure would look at Arabia as they have to place so both the horse and food is in 2nd ring. Early game happy situation is pretty dire. Arabia and America don't appear to have any within reasonable reach. Only Germany and Holy Rome have 2 for sure. Portugal has to get gems on island between it and Germany. Would recommend giving everyone an early game happy on their starting island of approximate same quality and check that they have a 2nd somewhere semi safe. Will be an interesting decision of happy vs taking contested island areas. Don't like the crafted "good" astro island. Seems a little too good in comparison to other two.
I am definitely on record that phil with America is not needed. It does fine without. Broken either way.
Regardless a huge advantage Bing has this game is that he is creative. I'm shocked more people didn't pick considering island maps are pretty famous for 2nd ring seafood. Yuris with ind has inside track to stonehenge which will also be pretty good. Sure cha has cheap monuments but that isn't quite the same. I'm shocked Gilgamesh cre/pro wasn't picked for this game. That would have been mine. (April 24th, 2024, 11:23)Mjmd Wrote: I am definitely on record that phil with America is not needed. It does fine without. Broken either way. Seems like a field more concerned about war than economy, generally.
Creative is really, really good on island maps, but I think with 15h monuments Charismatic is fair to out-compete it, given Nav1 in the midgame and (under-discussed) ubiquitous Nav2 after Steel, plus the happy boost helping a lot with food high/tilecount low islands maps. I actually think it makes Egypt/Ethiopia/Native America a little better just because that happy boost doesn't go away right at the keystone tech.

Hey Thoth, here's a challenge for if you are bored at some point.
Could Yuris Oracle MC by T55? I have no idea if work boat or worker first is best for that because of the commerce constraints, but it feels like this could win him the game (as its a 5 player game). Ag-->Mining-->Bronze-->Med-->Priesthood-->Pottery Other factor which I don't think has been considered is the option of settling on the Sheep for a 3 food city tile. Same 12 turns to the worker but the growth curve is faster and the Corn is online a turn earlier.

At first I thought settling on the sheep was genius but I kind of hate it UNLESS you are going agricultural into early BW. I could see that opening being good. It would also have to be the starts that still have access to double seafood, which not all of them do.
Settling the sheep (for Yuris) also drops him to three food, all inner ring which makes his second city location choices a bit nastier. This start is a solid little puzzle.
I've avoided saying anything about the map, but I just need to say that it looks truly disgusting on the map overview (That's just M&S for you though). |
