Yeah, I'm really hoping he's just having a great internet-free vacation at the moment and neglected to warn anyone.
As for actual Civ, I'm like a day or two away from opening a CivGeneral discussion on some sort of Plan B for Pitboss. Because as of right now, we have no way to play any new Pitboss games. Seems like a fairly important issue to begin sorting out. But I'm hesitant to jump the gun.

I know this is a tech thread for a game, so I am hesitent to jump into a discussion on a more general point, but as a forum we realistically do want to have a back up plan for PB games. That alone is worth discussing so it's not unwise to open the general discussion in the general forum, even if Ramk turns up this evening well tanned and rested.

Think you're right. Will do so today when I get a few minutes. Realistically the forum will die out if PB is no longer possible, so it would be best to start working on a solution. The good news is the tools Ramk/Zulan use are all open-source and available on Github. So this would not be a case of starting over from 0.

I forget - is it possible/easy to convert a PBEM into a sequential Pitboss? That might buy us a month or two to figure out PB hosting as we play through the early turns.

Thoughts on starting as a PBEM and just sort of hoping we can sort out PB hosting sometime in the next month?

Sure, hopefully Ramk is ok and will come back, or we can sort out our own solution (I'm happy to chip in if financial contributions are needed). But might as well get rolling with the option we have available

Some brief googling suggests there's no reason you can't load a save in PB, so I think it should work. I'm optimistic we can figure out PB hosting of some sort before we get to a more meaningful stage of the game. Good if we get started? I assume the various PBEM trackers don't exist anymore, but we can do it the old-fashioned way for a short time. Maybe use a Discord channel for tracking.
