I gave it a quick and dirty run as Boudi of Japan because that's the sim I already had set up. Boudi can do it easily by t55 with no chops and not much optimization. DeGaul should be able to do it by t47 (when Pottery is due).
(I didn't bother playing it out to see how many turns I could shave off the t55 date)
Settling on the sheep, worker-->wb to size 2-->settler (working lake + corn until the riversiide plains hill mine is done + 1 turn IIRC to get bronze done a turn early). Settler done eot 27, settled to share crab because I haven't looked at the real map so I've no idea what is in Yuris' fog. WB x3 + partial WB in capital (2 for nets, two just to put hammers into something null while waiting for Priesthood). Priesthood done eot 41 (this might be improvable by 1t?) and Pottery done eot 47.
I also didn't revolt to Slavery. Mostly because I forgot to but it looks like a not horrible play as earliest Oracle date looks to be tech rather than hammer limited for DeGaulle.

I can't get my head around just how fugly the minimap looks, and how interesting the islands actually are.

Scooter: If there is a second ring corn and a first ring, then one worker turn can be put into the sheep whilst moving, so actually it's a three turn pasture versus a 5 turn farm. That means the sheep ends up four food ahead (2 extra food per turn for two turns) but if that leads to growth one turn faster there is an extra hammer or food available for the extra growth turn (plus the commerce). If the worker then improves teh corn, the paths converge again with the food equal at teh end but hte sheep pasture up some commerce.
Also you should have settled blue first. It needs no border pop, doesn't need a road (but a road speeds up the settling, and only needs the cow hooking. The cow then generates enough hammers for hte work boat for the clam, and it's trivial to time a work boat for the fish for capital border growth. There's more total yield available than settling for a grass cow and stealing a corn, which just slows the capital. I reckon this was a case where a size 2 settler and early AH was probably justified.

I almost posted something like that in scooter's thread. By my count the sheep first is 1f up even, not only commerce. However, it requires researching AH which is a bit sketchy.

It doesn't feel that sketchy to me for Carthage/scooter: there are 7 work boats needed just for the starting island so there will always be something useful to grow on, and the only two viable second city locations. Extrapolating that other players might be in the situation suggests someone else might have started with Agriculture and just gone straight into AH (and maybe a size 2 settler whilst then heading to BW?)

I don't think Scooter realises quite how aggressive white + founding for the wheat could be seen as. His white is an island right off Bing's central island.

This might be the single most casually provocative aggro settle in RB history.

Not a lot of discussion for this game because the reporting has been poor from most of the players, but I think it's worth noting how badly scooter is annihilating this field. Tarkeel's tech summary from yesterday is just mind-boggling:
Tarkeel Wrote:Cairo and SD are the closest to Astro, in different directions: Cairo can research Paper, but SD is the only other player with Machinery for Optics.
Superdeath is missing the entire religion tree, including Monarchy/Feudalism.
Yuri is deep in the Aesthetics line, but is missing CodeOfLaws and Monarchy/Feudalism.
Scooter isn't just the first player to reach Astronomy on a water-heavy map, no one else is even remotely close to the #1 most important tech for this setup. He not only reached Astronomy + Paper before anyone else reached Optics, there's only one player out of his four rivals who can even RESEARCH Optics as a tech option! What the heck has everyone else been doing in this game?!? Yuri detoured off into the Aesthetics line and then sank 600 hammers into one of the most ill-advised attacks in recent memory which forced Bing to kill his economy in response, but what about superdeath and Cairo? Scooter has played an excellent game but he shouldn't be THIS far ahead against players who never fought a war or had something else slow them down.
At this rate, he's going to have frigates to their caravels and can capture anything he wants anywhere on the map.

To be fair, Scooter went through his cheap Great People slots to do that, while nobody else has really done a big GP push yet, right? Yuris is planning a Pacifism/GA run, Superdeath says he's gearing up to bulb towards Astro as well, and Bing doesn't seem to have done much with great people yet (as Phi, even) so there should be some coming.
