Gold Ergo Sum Wrote:I played poorly with poor PhoenixCull last night. Mechanically, I am improving by leaps and bounds, but I really don't know how the strategy of this genre of game works. I've been so focused on just being able to manage the mechanics of real-time mouse and keyboard gaming that the overall strategy of playing LoL hasn't really been a concern of mine. While I am by no means good at all, I think I understand the mechanics of Garen fairly well now. Now I need to start focusing on strategy.

Try to join up with some of the more experienced players here, either for a practice game or a 5 vs 5. Speaker, Mookie, Atlas, etc. can all "call" you through a game on Teamspeak. There's a world of difference between someone serving as the "head coach" (so to speak) and directing a cohesive team strategy, versus the typical solo queue game where all five people are running around doing their own thing. And once you get some experience working in a true team environment, you'll start to be able to learn map awareness and begin to see what/where to be for yourself. You could also try watching some of the videos I cast on YouTube.

Congrats on the victory posted. Wow, there are some awful character builds in low-level games. lol

Yeah. The thing with Garen is, once he is fully ranked up, his spinning-blade move just annihilates minions. Stand in the middle of a group of 6-7 of them, spin, kill them all.

My team also left me to solo the top lane for most of the game, so all the minions were mine. And the other team was very bad, because they sent 2 heroes the whole time and never killed me.

Also, I downloaded Teamspeak2, but couldn't figure out how it works. My friend and I got into the same lobby, but could never figure out how to actually talk to each other, so we just reverted back to using Gmail Talk. And is there a specific server address you recommend?

True story from earlier today: Solo queue, all players around level 25, start of the game.
Warwick and Xin Zhao both run mid while cursing each other to go somewhere else.
Nobody backs down, so they keep flaming until the end of the game and promise not to help each other, no matter what.
Ashe is still afk. Master Yi is there, but decides to quit 7 minutes into the game. Ashe comes back and keeps getting killed because she is 6 levels behind.

Love solo queue duh

Too bad switching to US servers causes too much lag for me :thumbsdow

Are the holiday runes worth buying? I'm level 13 and was trying to figure out if they were cost effective to buy.

I'm in the US and I have too much lag- and it's frustrating too because the game freezes up weirdly when it lags. But I have problems in general with the client. It crashes on me at least a couple times every day. duh

My gut says get 2.

90% effectiveness for 50% cost, and you can use it now, seems a pretty decent deal to me. So that's one. When you hit level 20, you'll open up a second slot. The 2K of IP you've saved can be invested then to upgrade your tier 1 runs to tier 3, and you'll have plenty of time to collect IP and replace the holiday runes by the time you hit level 30.

If you're already spending riot points (RP) on heroes, and figure to have 11K+ IP by the time you hit level 20, then settle for a single pumpkin rune.

Yeah, I'm only willing to use IP. I guess I'm too cheap, but that's norm for life as a college student I guess. wink

note for Sullla, which I didn't get to explain last night: rylais gives +80 AP, +500 health, Frozen mallet gives +700 health but +20 attack power; Morde causes magic damage with all of his abilities, so it is an attempt to not quite suck so much when building as a tank. Not the greatest, I have to admit, but still experimenting.

Hello all. Just played my first normal game - and it's a win. jive A pretty decisive one at that. Score screen! Me playing Taric.

I started solo laning against Ashe and Warwick, that's why I didn't get many minion kills (we won't mention my ability to last-hit) because I was afraid of :ranele:. But one time Ashe came within range of the tower with few mobs to tank, so I stunned her there, ran up and activated the gem aura, and actually got the kill. That was fun.

I had little clue what I was doing item-wise, though. There are like 50 Taric guides on that leaguecraft site, I didn't know where to begin.

And to contribute, I found this site on the something awful forums: http://www.goonlol.com/index.php/Main_Page. Can't comment too much on the content, though it seems like mostly sound advice to me.

What really helped us in the last game I played tonight were wards. I think we are underusing them by far. We should use them when we hit lvl 6 and regularly..

For the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how to get the free character from becoming a fan of LoL on facebook. I've "liked" League of Legends. I've gone through the link on the page. Signed into my Riot account. And it always says I am not a fan of LoL yet. Anybody know how I could be messing this up?
