Delurks. This game sounds really interesting to me. I'll be your partner if you want.

I dont know about the auction, and i will be honored to be in same team with rego, i read his spoiler in pitbos 1 and i was frustrated because he didn't won.
He played the best game ,best civing skils but no luck in the end.For teh auction you could say Pacal is worth 70(when you start with 100), and if someone give 70 is he's without auction(just a tought).

Hmm, I like the auction idea but depending on specific rules, we might want to consider allowing duplicate leaders/Civs. Maximum allowances have the potential to screw someone to the point where they can't afford either a good leader or Civ.

To the extent that I have any control over this thing and we need to someone to step forward to sort out all the ideas, I am thinking this:

Limit to 12 teams. Unlimited player signups so long as people are willing to agree to teammates.

Whatever number of teams we end up with (x teams), myself, with the consultation of some randoms in a separate lurkers only thread, will choose an interesting mix of leaders and civs (x + 2) for the teams to bid upon. I will probably avoid the power combo leaders (those with two of Fin, Cre, Exp), and throw in a mix of middle tier leaders. I will be shooting for a balance of traits. But I will probably choose the power Civs, because I think most people regard the Civs as less valuable than the leaders, so this way, there is incentive to perhaps not all just bid on the 1-2 best leaders.

Things to be decided:

1. Giving enough cash to use for bidding that it actually becomes a decision on whether you want to hold onto the cash or max bid.

2. An auction method. For simplicities sake, since the list of leaders/civs will be limited, I think a blind auction, where each team assigns a dollar value to their choices will be the easiest. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will be the most fun. I think it would be interesting to have a series of 48 hour auction for sets of 20-35% of the leaders and civs. But since the players won't know which civs and leaders will show up on the following day (i.e. one of the better ones, or simply worst ones), they have to decide how much they want to risk what leaders/civs will show up on the following auction days. We would just have a separate auction thread, and people will post their dollar bid for whatever leader they want. We will say auction closes with highest bidder winning in 48 hours, with any bid that isn't topped within a set time period (4, 6, 8, 12 hours or whatever) automatically accepted (or that a subsequent bid must be increased by at least 1-2 gold per hour that the last bid stood open, to prevent sandbagging to the end).

Thoughts?

So you have never popped a goody hut for cash on the first turn? wink

BTW, I claim prior art on the auction idea smile

Here's another possible way of doing the auction:

Parallel multi-item-but-you-can-only-win-one auction. (I just made up that name, but it's an already existing auction type used in several board games.)

All the things being auctioned off are available at once with min bids of zero. Whenever you do not currently have a winning bid on an item, you may make a bid. The auction ends when everyone is bidding on a different item (and thus will win it).

This would actually be really easy (and fairly quick) to do in a forum, as long as there was some sort of spreadsheet tracking the current high bids. You could do this first for the leaders and then for the civs, or vice versa, or for packages of leader/civ that had been pre-formed.

QFT lol

I haven't officially signed up for this game, despite my constant "whining" in this thread. I probably will not sign up for my own team I think but I'm still noodling.

A leader auction sounds really fun for the lurkers. Just to add to GES' headache, another auction method that could be used is the dutch auction.

Basically, open bidding on all leaders at once, with a very high initial asking price, say 500 gold. Every hour the price is lowered by 10 gold. Anyone can win the auction for a leader at any time, simply by posting that they accept the current asking price. Maybe not as fun to watch but a psychological thriller and a fast way of performing the auction.
I have to run.

This sounds very straightforward yet still interesting and strategic. I guess you'd also need a rule for the maximum allowed raise, to avoid a situation where someone just immediately places the maximum possible bid on their favorite. Also, if there is no fixed bidding order then it would slightly favor those who can watch the thread most closely, but that may be ok.

I'm a bit surprised that people are viewing 100 gold as a sufficient budget. For example, I would have thought people would be willing to pay more than 100 gold for upgrading a Protective/Imperialistic leader to Financial/Expansive.
