"Alexzuma! I’m your lord protector! ..."

"... Knell and pray homage to me!" Huitzilopochtli materializing booms.

“Aaahhhhhh!” Alexzuma wetting his animal loins screams.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little sample of the prelude from my report. I found the document in preparing a mini-report for my Sky Gods game. Later I will complete my post. I would like to post my prelude and the mini-report from my brief game. Here's what happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried to setup a dual install of vanilla Civ4. First I upgraded my current installation to v1.74 and next tried to setup an installation of v1.61. However the setup disk wouldn't install because it detected a higher version of Civ4 already installed on my computer. I backup my saved game and removed Civ4 from my computer. Afterwards I realized I forgot to backup my screenshots and electronic notes from the game. Not having an undelete utility installed; I didn't tried to recover the deleted files. Not wanting to continue playing the game knowing I lost screenshots and electronic notes to a quarter/third of my game I considered myself retired. My last turn year was 600AD. I’ll report what I can remember in a mini-report.

As I was said above, I installed Civ4 patch v1.74 when it was released. Just to play it and see what’s change with vanilla Civ4. Wanting to return to my Sky Gods game and not have it be considered a shadow game, I tried a dual install of vanilla Civ4. Vanilla Civ4 doesn’t work this way. I uninstalled Civ4 and removed the “My Games” folder to start with a clean slate on my computer. Ooops! I just deleted all my game assets and didn’t know it at the time. Anyways I reinstalled the game, patch to v1.61, and started playing again. It was only than did I realized I deleted all my game assets. Doh! Not having a way to recover the files, I decided to stop playing. As said, I copied my saved game so I could have continued. I lost my motivation knowing my report would be lacking the screenshots and ideas I already wrote on the game. I didn’t feel like recreating my ideas from scratch. I deleted the saved game.

A few days ago I found a draft of my prelude and game notes in another folder. Double Doh! I could have created a decent report on my game and not have to recreate everything even though I’m still missing screenshots. If only I didn’t delete my saved game. My Sky Gods game was fun and interesting. My motivation renewed. Time was too short to complete a shadow game and report on it. What I’m resorting is to post a mini-report on the partial game I played. Without further ado …

“My black hole devours your last sun! I win the hunt! Galactic Dominance remains mine!” Mixcoatl finger pointed to black hole and clinched fist raised overhead boasts.

“CHEATER!” Huitzilopochtli screams unleashing a volatile red giant sun at the black hole. It explodes in a tremendous supernova on the event horizon, engulfing the black hole and violently shaking space around it. Space is literally on fire! Later the explosion dissipates to reveal the black hole as grown in size!

“My black hole is the ultimate hunter! Nothing will stop it! It devours everything!” Mixcoatl finger pointed to Huitzilopochtli and hand on stomach laughs.

“Your domain is the heavenly bodies, and you summon the devourer knowing my Suns will dominate the Milky Way!” Huitzilopochtli angrily spits with poisoned piercing eyes.

“How the supreme lord whines when he loses!” Mixcoatl both hands on stomach laughs.

Huitzilopochtli moves in blurred motion to attack, startling Mixcoatl. He suddenly stops face to face with Mixcoatl and sinisterly laughs.

A titanic vacuuming sound followed by a galactic boom resonates the astral as the Milky Way collapses in on itself and seizes to exist.

“The Milky Way! What have you done?” Mixcoatl infuriated screams.

“Know how I command my powers!” Huitzilopochtli arms cross mocks.

“CAMAXTLI!” Mixcoatl angrily summons.

“Did someone call?” Camaxtli materializing causally asks.

Mixcoatl screams and lunges to attack Camaxtli. Huitzilopochtli, the quicker, reacts by projecting a fire beam at Mixcoatl thrusting him away.

“Mixcoatl! You’ll pay with you existence for assaulting me!” Camaxtli finger pointed at Mixcoatl threatens.

“Enough you two!” Huitzilopochtli with both palms held out interjects.

“Huitzilopochtli is a sore loser and uses his pet of Fate to seek vengeance!” Mixcoatl shaking a fist venomously spits.

“ENOUGH! And you’re my pet too!” Huitzilopochtli finger pointed at Mixcoatl thunders.

“Or does Mixcoatl entertain the idea of Mixcoatl, the Supreme Lord?” Huitzilopochtli readying to truly attack Mixcoatl volatility spurs.

Mixcoatl eyes down is silent.

“Good Mixcoatl.” Huitzilopochtli laughs. ”And yes. I telepathically instructed Camaxtli to lower the mass of the Milky Way; collapsing it out of existence. Your black hole is NOT indestructible!”

“The Milky Way is destroyed! It should not be!” Mixcoatl angerly replies.

“What is pre-destined destroyed will be recreated. This is the way of Fate.” Camaxtli arms wide interjects.

“The Milky Way is as it was without your ultimate hunter. For the devourer will eat everything it hunts and this fate shall not be.” Camaxtli continues.

“The Milky Way is restored. Good.” Mixcoatl nods in acceptance.

“Squabbles aside. Worship is sustenance. Fate of an insignificant is a tree growing many branches.” Camaxtli bowing adds.

“Interesting. Worship does bring sustenance. Where is this insignificant you speak?” Huitzilopochtli sweeping his hand towards Camaxtli questions.

“Infinite are insignificants. We shall go to the closest.” Camaxtli finger pointed to the nearest planet answers.

“The planet will do.” Huitzilopochtli agrees. Mixcoatl nods.

“What creature does the Fate favors?” Mixcoatl questions.

“Fate favors this one. Alexzuma.” Camaxtli finger pointed selects.

“Alexzuma! I’m your lord protector! Knell and pray homage to me!” Huitzilopochtli materializing booms.

“Aaahhhhhh!” Alexzuma wetting his animal loins screams.

“We are your lord protectors!” Camaxtli materializing booms.

“Knell and pray homage to us!” Mixcoatl materializing booms.

“Have mercy on me! Have mercy on me!” Alexzuma terrified drops to his knees prays.

“We are your lord protectors. Create a civilization …” Huitzilopochtli demands.

Obviously I renamed the leader to Alexzuma.

Every turn, I used the Sky Gods to recon my borders. The recon kept the raging barbs to a minimum on my peninsula; allowing me to have thin defenses – an archer in every city. Barbs were popping out of the dark jungles at the edge of my recon view. I believe the distance to my cities was too great because they choose to ignore me. I smiled as I watched the barbs traveled westward to create havoc on Cyrus or Kublai Khan. The raging barbs were a non-issue. The early recon revealed the location of three tribal villages – popping for gold twice and a map. Recon every turn was a bit monotonous; however it yielded its benefits. It toned down as the land was settled.

I quickly settled six cities. I captured a barb city located in the jungles by the banana and ivory resources for my seventh city. My seven cities encompassed most of the peninsula. Cyrus settled a city near a small mountain range on the peninsula edge to capture a copper resource. The city borders were land locking me on the peninsula. We didn’t have open borders because we converted to different religions and he didn’t like me. The same situation happened in the early game. His capital borders land locked my scout by the time I discovered his city. Shortly thereafter a bear ate the scout. My foreign relations were only Cyrus or Kublai Khan for awhile. Only later after Cyrus established open borders with the other civs did I discover Caesar, Hatshepsut, and Roosevelt. I never did learn who the last unknown civ was?

My research started with Fishing, Polytheism, and a few worker techs. I found Hinduism and converted to it. It was my goal to found Hinduism because it felt natural to discover and convert to in a game about Sky Gods. I researched Fishing first so I could build a fishing boat for the seafood resource in my capital. My capital build queue was worker, switched to fishing boat upon researching Fishing, completed worker, settler, settler, Stonehenge, Oracle, and the Parthenon. I forget the order but later the city build a granary, library, monastery (or two I forget), Great Library and National Epic. I grabbed Code of Laws with the Oracle and found Confucianism. I popped four great prophets. I used the first one to lightbulb Civil Service (completed research at my earliest date of 300BC), the next two build shrines, and the fourth was to be used as a sacrifice to the Sky Gods for early warmongering. A fifth great person was going to pop in a few turns. My capital was generating 52gpps per turn from a combo of wonders built and two hired scientists. I was debating to use the next great person as a sacrifice for 10 frenzied bloodlust turns or maybe build an academy in my capital if a great scientist. I missed the great artist from researching Music to Kublai Khan for perhaps 15 (guarantee 10) frenzied bloodlust turns. As you can see I was trying to stockpile a bunch of frenzied bloodlust turns together for early warmongering in a group sacrifice. Who would have thought great people would be used as sacrificial fodder en masse in a game! No pun intended; I was going for the gusto to attack both Cyrus and Kublai Khan at once. Here’s way.

First the early game was a builder game: grab land, start specializing cities, get the economy growing, and begin the great people popping machine. Pop, pop, pop, pop! I was preparing my early warmongering by the time I, *cough*, retired in 600AD. My plan was to build two stacks of city raiding jaguars, flanking war elephants, formation spearmen, and bombarding catapults to attack both Cyrus and Kublai Khan. During the frenzied bloodlust turns the Sky Gods would bombard city defenses, catapults would cause collateral damage, and jaguars would capture the cities. War elephants and spearmen would be used as secondary units attacking cities or counter-attacking enemy units. I was building spearmen before my war elephants came online. There was barb city that impeded their time to production. I wanted to capture two/three cities from each civ to effectively cripple both empires until I could regroup/reinforce my stacks to eliminate both. Cyrus recently discovered Feudalism so Longbowmen were coming. I was researching Metal Casting and next Machinery to bring Macemen online. I wanted to start my attacks by the time Machinery was researched. My reinforcements would be Macemen, War Elephants, and Catapults for conventional warmongering. The frenzied bloodlust turns would have past by the time the reinforcements arrive. Ultimately I wanted to integrate the territories of both Cyrus and Kublai Khan into my empire; and later conquer the remaining civs simply razing cities along the way. Of course, during the course of the game try to pop as many great people as possible for sacrificial fodder en masse. Anyway this is what I was planning. I *cough* retired in 600AD.
