Just a suggestion for the GW rooms, since I don't think we're ever going to need that many channels: get rid of all of them and change it to something generic like "Gathering 1, Gathering 2." I don't think we'll ever need more than 2 rooms, tbh, and having seperate rooms for the different group types seems more cluttery-ish than neccessary.

Well, I've seen the need for three channels in there... *Starts singing the "Be Prepared" song from Hoodwinked* lol

But yeah, those channels have always been a mess. Suggestion:

- Guild Wars
+ Gathering 1
+ Gathering 2
+ Gathering 3

Hijacking one of the Vent threads...

I've been thinking about Skype as a VoIP communication method. You know I can't easily access Vent, but Skype seems to work properly for me.

It doesn't need any money/server to run, so I expect some huge problems with it. tongue Why is it worse than Vent?

If you've looked into how "conference calls" work, it's hugely inconvenient. Someone has to make a call and then individually invite people to it.

There is supposedly some peer-peer gaming-VoIP software in alpha/beta whatnot now, can't recall the name of it...

Anyway, if Mucco can figure out which ports of his are open, I suggest changing our vent port (if possible) to see if that helps.

You could add your mother to our RB conference call while we're in Hard Mode and struggling. lol

I don't see how the conference call is more inconvenient than the process of grouping up in game.

Anyway, I can provide the list of open ports without any problem. I don't want to force the entire community to switch that port just for me though...

I'll try working around the problem a bit more before giving up on vent.

EDIT: looks like Vent 3 has started to use the UDP protocol (something like that anyway), which is a Very Bad Thing because the programs which I need to bypass the firewall only use the TCP protocol.

Maybe I'll look further into it another time, for now I can provide the list of ports I can use: 21, 22, 80, 110, 443, 554, 873, 993, 995, 1755, 1863, 3389. I believe none of that ports can be used for Vent servers though.

*Any* port can be used for a vent server, it just depends on the host's restrictions (if any)
