Pitboss 2 - Time Out

OK, I realize that I'm hardly ever here, and I apologize that I don't catch stuff like this more quickly. One of the reasons that this works as well as it does is that RB players, by and large, are a respectable bunch that tend to moderate themselves.

However, with the current drama that's going on in Pitboss 2, I don't feel that the game can be continued until we work some things out. The forum is still there, but password protected. I ask that everyone stay out of the forum until we come to some kind of consensus.

I haven't had a chance to read through all of the threads yet, but I wanted to remind everyone here that RB players have always acted on the side of caution with regard to spoilers! The reason this community works as well as it does is because we trust one another. We don't very often have to come down and police people, or check save files, or try to figure out who did or didn't say what via PM.

Until we are able to reestablish that level of trust, and until we have an understanding of what is expected of both lurkers and players, then the game will have to be on hold. Sorry.

In this thread, keep discussion to the general. DO NOT mention specific game information when replying. We need to come up with a list that will work for all games, including future ones, so there's no need to post anything specific to this game!

I want to come to a consensus here, then let the dust settle, then we can talk (somewhere else) about anything that might or might not need to be removed from PB2.

I still don't see any reason to believe that any lurkers acted unethically. Frankly I think this is an overreaction.

Look, I'm just trying to figure out what's going on here. If the consensus is that everything is fine, then we may be able to move on after a brief time out.

But for the time being, I think we should take a break and get everything out in the open before we move on.

So uh... What is going on?

I think it's some lurker problem. A lurker gave some info away?

I wish I had the new suggestions that I posted...now, I'll have to ask Griselda to copy/paste them from the RBPB2 forum to here, because I can't remember them.

Sufficed to say, the situation is simple.

The game can continue, it doesn't need to be paused, unless the players themselves feel it necesarry. This is ultimately a problem that the lurkers need to sort out for themselves, with some help from the players. The game is fine, it is the forum that needs sorting out.

While the forum is locked, this is not a problem that affects the players, so there is no need for any worry, DMOC, or anyone else. I would suggest that al players continue to write the reports, so that they can be posted as soon as the forum is reopened.

It sounds like I'm not going to be able to get a comprehensive answer without the answer itself being too spoilery. duh

Basically, Krill is trying to figure out how much of a role lurkers should have in this game - what sorts of interactions are OK, and what sorts are spoilery.

If we are going down the password route - we could have the game admin hold passwords for each spoiler thread, and lurkers must ask admin for one password and thats it.

They only get to follow one thread (unless they hack passwords) and the no lurker thread is closed. That removes the chances of outside information getting in as much as is possible. There's no way to regulate PMs or Gmail.

To continue this - each player gets a list from the admin of the players who have the password, so that they can 'avoid' any pms from any scurrilous individuals who aren't on the list.

This is possibly a bit too extreme but I think it is a practical solution to this 'problem'
