I figure we might as well have one of these since the game seems to have ended. I'll have more to say once I've finished reading all the other threads.
Could someone sticky this BTW?

To post a bit of a write up from a lurker's perspective...
There were two flaws in the game setup that I think doomed this game from the beginning: tech trading being on, and the massive number of civs. The game might have worked out okay if only one of these factors were present, but with both... Everything degenerated very, very quickly into two giant blocs, with each civ in it not being an individual but merely a part of the whole. This obviously didn't seem to be that fun for the players, as the thread updates became more and more uncommon.
Of course, this game was fun to lurk for a while; I enjoyed the diplomacy in the pre-alphabet phase, and the grappling for position among the teams. But then, everything just... stopped. I would appreciate some sort of narrative update from some of the teams, just so I can know what actually happened in the game!
One last comment: Sulla, the map was interesting in theory, but in practice everything seemed to end up looking the same, one giant, flat, uniform plane.
Anyway, good game, and long live the Realms Beyond Pitboss games!

I don't know about tech trading being on or off. We all saw what happened in PB2 with the diplo. I'm not sure if this would have happened with so many players on a sprawling all land map but I don't think that was the contributing factor.
My opinion on the matter was that the downfall of the game was a combination of the number of civs and the difficulty we played on. The city upkeep penalty was such a brick wall that we really didn't have a settling race in the traditional sense. Yeah we had our tiff with France but that was over resources and opportunity.
The tech trading blocks weren't too bad, we started nibbling away at each other's outlying civs but the sheer number of civs involved and complexity of turn orders(Thanks Krill :D) really made a mess of things.

I really don't know what's been going on for the latter half of the game, I dropped out early due to lack of time and interest (though to my defense, I knew it might happen and that's why I only entered the game with a four man team!). Anyway, I really disliked having tech trading on and also the amount of diplomacy you've gotta keep up with. The map was OK'ish, but I preferred PB2 map. It was more.. inspiring? I don't know. Just felt better.
Thx to all players, I had some fun moments nevertheless.

Yeah, think what would have happened if you hadn't swindled 2 (or was it 3?) workers off us :neenernee
Map was interesting, although I must say Sulla, what was up with the oil distribution? If we had kept playing, there were a number of civs who were going to be seriously screwed over. I think the map thread will probably be the first I read, so I'll have more to say on that shortly.
I haven't read any other threads yet, but I think the one thing I will say is that having that many human civs with tech trading on drastically throws the balance of civ 4 out of whack. The tech was so blazingly fast, the balance between hammers and beakers just wasn't in line.

I'd really like to thank Novice for his state of the game in the lurker thread. Must have taken a bit of time considering you had access to all the information instead of use some of it like we had.

Well, when we get that balance mod sorted out, we could easily start a fast PBEM game...
Also, ShoottheMoon, yes, if I hadn't gained those workers from you I'd be completely screwed. Just remember that you giving those workers to me was what kept me alive to protect your left flank

Thanks, you're very welcome. I was just trying to make sense of the situation.
I have to run.
