antisocialmunky -- but VNs ate his colonies, so is that a pass? or a request for assistance?
Plus anyone else that would like to drop in...
Shall we set a time to get started? Saturday perhaps?
Everyone who's in, are you all caught up to 1.8.0?
That said, I'd like to get the ball rolling here; we've got enough confirmed folks to start and a week of signups should be sufficient. I'm looking for an update on status to confirm everyone is at 1.8.0 and to confirm whether our maybes are participating. If you need a little extra time, don't be shy; we can always slot people in at the end of the order, but please do let us know either way!
As for the game itself, we appear to have a number of newer players here, so I was thinking of starting something not too rough:
- 6 players (1 of every race, we play as Humans)
- Normal difficulty, Alliances on
- 100 stars, Disc map
- Every race starts with 2 extra colonies, defaults otherwise
That said, if people are looking for a challenge... well I have a lot of experience with the game and am more than happy to give out pointers, so I wouldn't be shy about picking something a little less easy going if that's what folks would like!
So please let me know what kind of a game setup you are looking for here as well.

I'll lurk and chime in from time to time.
I think 20 stars per and globular clusters would be fun. I think that's more interesting since you don't immediately have contact with everyone 50 turns in so there's more possibilities with how the AIs develop.
Also, Hivers are completely OP in disk if they start near the center.

Checking in. Version says 1.8.0 ( complete edition bought of Impulse )
As I said before - I'm green and clueless to the more arcane aspects of the game - the more challenging you make it, the more hand-holding will I need in the process Apart from that, make it so it's fun for everyone :]

Confirming that 1.8.0 works, and that I'm ready to play. It's just been an incredibly long time since my last playthrough. I've been playing too much Civ4, and I need to remember that research and construction come from the same pool, and that human colonisers can only travel 9LY between stars. Then again, I don't usually play human, my favourite races are Liir, Hiver, and Zuul. The other three are boring

I got the ultimate collection version of this game for Christmas 09, because I knew it was highly recommended by Zed. I intended to start playing this right away, but then I then got drug into playing and committing my entire life into the fiasco that was PB 3. The hangover effect of spending 12+ hours a day every day (even while on vacation) on that game made me not want to play ANY 4x game until January, when I started playing MoO again.
The end result of this is that I have never even gotten the game out of the plastic wrap. Considering you already have a lot of new players, I should probably just lurk and see if it's worth my while to look for the 3rd expansion (or can the expansion pack be downloaded by itself reasonably cheaply?)

Yes, see my link in the SOTS 2 info thread for a link to it for $5 on Amazon.
I hate to be That Guy, but I think I'd prefer to beg out of this game for now. RL is busy with travel over the next few weeks and I'm not sure I have the mind space to dive into learning a new 4X game right now. Still stuck on Final Fantasy 5 for my gaming time at the moment.

Well, for 5 bucks, I'll look into it. If you really need players, I might be able to do this game (don't hold a spot for me for now), but there is no way I could play before NEXT Saturday as I work 80hrs the next 9 days, and my gf will be out of town starting Thursday, so I'll have to do everything around the house as well.

ANY by itself is quite inexpensive, as T-Hawk pointed out, and I'm quite happy to have more players at this point, considering bow-outs and unconfirmed players. The more the merrier in fact; if things really pick up I can host 2 instances of the game about as easily as one.
T-Hawk, sorry to hear about your lack of time, but do feel free to lurk and get a sense of the game.

Oh, heck with it, count me in. I need something to keep me from signing up for werewolf, anyway. As soon as I figure out how to get from where I am to where you are, game version-wise, that is. I know I have the base game and the Argos Naval Yard expansion, but I'm not sure if it's possible to go from that to the game with all expansions short of buying the Ultimate Collection.
Put me in the essentially complete noob category, though. I only put a few hours into it, and that was a while ago.

Ok, welcome aboard Mardoc!
If you have or can get access to Born of Blood and A Murder of Crows, then you have all the pieces you need without getting the Ultimate Collection (or the Complete Collection.) However, it's very probably cheaper to get the Ultimate Collection than to get both Born of Blood and A Murder of Crows at this point. The Ultimate Collection is a bit harder to find than the Complete Collection these days, but I believe Amazon Digital still sells it on DVD for around $13 or a download for $20.
I just noticed Amazon is selling the Complete Collection as a download on a 20% off sale for $16 USD right now...
