Gauging Diplo3 interest

I feel this may be a tad premature, but I'd like to gauge the interest that's out there for a third Diplomacy game. I was going to wait a bit longer, but Diplo1 is nearing a point where (for most players anyways), the time commitment is pretty light compared to early in the game when emails/chats are flying. It's summer so for me so I easily have time to start up a new game, and I know of a couple people who expressed interest in participating in the next game, so ... what's the interest level? Who all is interested in playing?

So I'm interested in GMing a "no-press" game on one of the judges or other automatic adjudicators.

It's what they call "gunboat", so there's no press, and you don't even know who's playing in the game (it's all anonymous till after the game).

24hr deadlines (you can go a lot faster when you don't have to talk or negotiate)

I'd maintain a single lurker thread, and if anyone wanted to give "End of Year" or periodic statements about what they were thinking, they could send them to me and I'd post (to maintain anonymity).

Plus that would bump my post count

To me, diplomacy isn't diplomacy if there is, well, no diplomacy, so, I have very little interest in playing gunboat (besides, I could play one of those any number of places, and I've never had the itch to. Of course, here, we're less likely to encounter quitters, which is a major plus, I'll grant you that.)

I would, though, play one as a SECOND companion game with the same player pool... if all the players were amenable to playing both ways. Then we could compare. (The gunboat game would be anonamous players of course).

Now, I wouldn't mind playing shorter turns... somewhere in the neighborhood of 36hrs (maybe 16 for builds/retreats), which at least introduces the element of time pressure that you face in a live game, while still allowing for some communication.

I would, also, not mind an anonamous game if people want to play that way. That could still be done easily enough. We'd register new emails, and we could even have threads. We'd just need someone (not necessarily you, but anyone) to volunteer to post whatever we send to our threads.

Yet another kind of game I wouldn't mind playing (not necessarily as the next game, but that'd be ok too) is a "Short Game" played either to a predetermined number of years (sugest somewhere around 12) or to a lesser # of SC (12-14 being somewhat common), or both. Both kinds of games are interesting variants that change gameplay a lot and require differing choices and strats.

I would play a no-press game as well, as that would take little-to-no time commitment really. If others volunteer for that then I'll definitely play it.

I was kind of wondering if this was a problem with this thread, because you have to choose the Diplomacy sub-forum to get to it and most people would just bypass that. . I'm going to pop up a thread in the general gaming forum to get some attention.
