I've recently come across a program called VASSAL, it's an open source Java based framework for various board games and war games and so on. There are over 1300 different games with modules that you can download and play. I've done some fooling around with a few of the games, and they seem to have pretty solid implementations of a bunch of well known games, as well as quite a few i've never heard of.
You can either set up games to play in real time or over PBEM, which will probably also depend on what type of game you're playing and how often other players need to provide input.
I know that there's a good few RB people I've talked to here that are interested in various board games, so I thought this is something that we could use to expand that interest with others here.

Any specific game you have tried out you would recommend?

Well someone in a spoiler thread to a pitboss game here mentioned Carcassone, which has the base game and 8 expansions in its module and is a good game, though i haven't looked at the actual module.
I've been interested in trying out a game of Eclipse over this program, but that game plays with lots of short player turns, so it;d probably be more suited for real-time play than PBEM

Agreed. I loved our gunboat Diplomacy game, and there should be some good other ones for PBEM-style reporting or RT playing.
I'm game for most anything, even if I have to learn it.

edit: in all seriousness, I can't figure out how to search. Do they have Avalon Hill's Civilization? That would be awesome
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

As long as you promise to keep up a turn a day pace, a snakes and ladders PBEM sounds like fun.
