We're playing a three-player draft race of Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi, also known as the sixth installment of the Fire Emblem series with the English title Binding Blade.
The goal is to complete the game in as few turns as possible, only using the characters each player drafted for their team.
RNG manipulation is banned and we're limiting our team to 12 draftees, otherwise we're using regular draft race rules shamelessly stolen from somewhere else:
Drafting:
1. This draft is for 5 players 3 players.
2. Roy, Marcus, Merlinus, Lalam/Elphin, and Fa are free for all to use.
3. Three A handful of units will remain undrafted.
4. The game will be played on Normal Mode.
Rules:
1. Undrafted units may recruit characters, rescue undrafted units and NPCs, trade, visit Shops and Armories, and dig up items in the desert.
2. Undrafted units may not do anything not listed above, including but not limited to meatshielding, building Supports, and opening Doors or Chests.
3. Use of the Warp staff is banned.
4. All Gaiden chapters are required to be visited. Chapter 20x (either route) does not count towards the total turncount up to 20 turns taken.
5. NPCs may do as they please without penalty.
6. The game must be played out to the True Ending.
Penalties:
1. Undrafted units have a 4 turn penalty per unit, per chapter.
Exceptions:
1. Undrafted Thieves may be used to obtain necessary Promotion items.

Draft order as randomized by Fenn went: Jowy -> Katon -> Fenn with a snake pick format.
We're playing chapter by chapter at the same pace, except for the opening chapters. I will need an opinion from Fenn or Katon on how many we'll do at once in the beginning.
Our reports will be hidden in spoiler tags, but we're allowed to open and discuss them once a round completes.
You can't do this, and I wonder why not.
There is a text group in diplmsg.txt which only contains one message, " I applaud your generosity. The ・spell proves your loyalty and good intentions."
I don't think people would want to buff their enemies too often, but in the current game I definitely would do so, if I had any such spells. The only other wizard with green books is about to get eliminated and I need the Gaea's Blessing they have. If I could buff their cities, not only would that raise my relations and improve my chances of trading for the spell (if that gets implemented), but it would help them stay in the game too!
On top of this, that is the only other wizard at war with the 3 wizard alliance that I'm at war with, and I don't have any presence on that plane yet, nor can I hope to get to that far location in the forseeable future even if I do enter the plane.
Anyway, would you like it if you could buff enemy cities?
...unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to make this work, Move Fortress and Summoning Circle are problems. Too bad, it would have been really nice to have one more way to improve diplomatic relations.
I wonder, do people read the encrypted spells in the spellbook in the F3 screen to find out what they'll be able to research in advance?
If you do, do you use this information in your strategy?
If you don't, why not? Would it spoil the game for you if you knew?
1. Gaining control of a unit is temporal and reverts at end of turn. There is a 25% chance for it to roll "control" again and keep control next turn.
2. Gaining control of a unit is permanent. There is a 25% chance to roll "control" again and return the unit, 75% chance to keep control next turn.
I'm asking because ever since I started playing insecticide, I have a feeling that the spell is not symmetrical. I think I get "1." when I cast the spell, but get "2." when the AI casts it. I'm not sure if this was also the case in 1.31, it was way too long ago to remember.
Anyone can confirm this, or knows which of the two is the correct effect of the spell?
Based on wiki I think "1." is the correct behavior?

This thread is outdated. The project is now in the release candidate phase. You can download the 1.50 patch in the new thread : http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=7954

The time has finally come to split all the changes I made for Caster of Magic from those that are suitable as an update of the "Insecticide" project, and create Master of Magic 1.5.
While the project is being assembled, I'll refer to it under the name "Raid" but at the time of the completed release, it'll simply be "Master of Magic 1.5", nothing more. Anyone who wants can add whatever suffix they like to show it's unofficial.
I don't have the patience, time, and testing capacity to play the game for another 3 months non-stop like I did for Caster of Magic, and I don't have a reason to either, as this release is for the community, not myself, I'm happy with playing CoM instead.
I request everyone who cares about getting an update to the original MoM game to help by testing the patch files. They are copy-paste from CoM and are tested in theory, but there is no guarantee they'll work as intended in a new environment, there might be dependencies I overlooked, or I might have simply missed copying a byte or two.
I also need feedback on which of the patches should be included in the main project and which should be kept as a separate, optional patch files.
The philosophy is pretty much the same as Insecticide, except that I also want to provide "mod" type optional patches that are not included in the exe by default, but can be added in by the user if desired. I also aim to fix flaws or bugs insecticide added by accident, there aren't too many of these but they certainly exist.
To apply a patch, type in FILESET Magic.exe patchfile.txt in any command prompt (total commander, cmd, or dosbox).
All patches need to be applied over insecticide 1.40n. If you are getting any warning message, you are probably using the wrong magic.exe file, or have already applied the patch to it. In either case, the patch will get applied anyway so as long as you did use the correct file, you don't have to worry about them.
Patches follow the naming scheme Mxxxyyyy.txt where
M means it is for Magic.exe, W is for wizards.exe
xxx is the number the patch should be referred as in posts.
yyyy is the type of the patch which can be
FIX - for patches that fix a bug or very serious design flaw that doesn't alter core gameplay rules
AI - for patches that improve AI and have no effect on anything else
DIPL - for patches that improve diplomacy only
FEAT - For everything else, that adds new features, mods, or changes rules.
The first 3 categories will doubtlessly be included in the final release unless they prove incompatible, or inefficient in the original game rule environment. Files marked "FEAT" will be included if they are convenience feature and not if they are mods, but these are up to the community decisions as they are a grey area.
I request test results in the following format :
123 : Safe, Include
if you tested patch 123, had no problems, it does what is described in the file (please read the text in the patch files!!!) and think it needs to be included in Master of Magic 1.5
123 : Safe, Optional
if you found no problems and consider it not suitable for Master of Magic 1.5 as default inclusion.
123 : Safe
If you found no problems and are fine with both including and not including the change.
123 : Bug, it does not ...
If it didn't work, or did something different from described, with proper description of what is wrong
All 252 patch files are now available for download and testing!
My faithful netbook (Samsung NC-10) started complaining about old age and memory problems, showing BSOD with alarming frequency. So looking for a replacement. With netbooks being phased out in favour of smartphones and tablets, I don't actually have that many options. Advice would be very welcome
What I want:
1. The laptop must be able to run Civ 4. I primarily use the laptop when travelling, and need to play my turns when my desktop pc is not available
1a. As a corollary, it needs to run Windows - I know there are ways to run Civ 4 on MacOS and it's probably possible on Linux or Android, but I don't want to spend time and effort trying to figure out how
2. I don't want to spend more than £250. I will consider slightly more than that for the right machine, but £250 is what I want to limit myself to. I think it approxmately matches to $300 in American prices
3. Battery life is the next priority, I'd be happy with advertised battery life of 8 hours, but the longer the better
Everything else is optional, with portability being the next priority
I did some research, and it looks like laptop/tablet transformers with detachable keyboard (such as Acer Aspire Switch) are all the rage these days. My main problem is that all of the ones I saw have a 32GB eMMC as the storage device, and no hard drive. I wouldn't expect Windows to take less than 20GB, so there isn't much space for other software. Does anyone have experience with these devices? What are your impressions?
Beyond that, the laptop I found which seems to meet my requirements best is Toshiba Satellite C55-C-1M9. I am however worried by lack of reviews for this specific model, and not sure if I can trust the advertised battery life of "up to 7 hours", as other laptops with similar specs promise 5 hours or less. Any thoughts on this? How certain can I be that battery life of this one would be sufficient?
Any other recommendations? Any advice would be welcome
Anyone knows where the AI checks the presence of the central structure?
AI units seem to be unable to attack anything that stands at (6,11) where it would be, even in battles where there is no such structure.
The AI does recognize the unit, moves there and tries to attack it, so targeting works fine. Ranged units can even shoot at the unit without a problem and spells work too. However melee units are unable to hit them, the game starts lagging a bit and then the unit moves randomly which looks like some last-resort movement for cases when the path is blocked.
I've checked and there is no phantom city wall present, I've already fixed that problem.
I've looked through procedures related to the units moving but found nothing that looks like the source of the problem. They are quite complicated and would take a while to fully understand.
I don't think the map marks the spot as inaccessible either because I was able to enter so it is probably hardcoded somewhere.
