PBEM32! Tech Thread

I'm not going to continue the argument here. I never wanted this to be a public discussion because I knew this would happen. Unfortunately you severely pissed me off yesterday by submarining a game I was really enjoying, so yeah, you got what you got. I'm not going to discuss the cheating stuff any further. Honestly, like Commodore said, if I thought it was a serious issue, I wouldn't have just played on and continued updating my thread as I did. So Serdoa, if you still want to be mad at me, fine - I'm not going to continue the discussion though.

I do want to comment on this though:

Serdoa Wrote:Who cares Krill? I certainly am not. Especially after finding more and more evidence that I was not the one not playing to the rules. Btw thanks for telling scooter that he should pick Joao AFTER you got full map knowledge AND simmed out that he would be the best leader for this game.

Um, not sure where you got this from, but I am capable of thinking and picking for myself. Krill sent one chat that said "pick Joao or I call you noob :P" which is what he says in every game I play because he's obsessed with Joao. I think he overrates Joao anyways :P, Joao's a one-trick pony and it's only a good trick on certain maps. Anyways, I didn't even want Joao, and I told him so. I had Joao roughly 3rd (because of IMP), but I mostly valued IMP because I wanted that Grocer for a large variety of reasons. I wanted Victoria and Suleiman over Joao, but when you and Commodore swiped them, I was stuck with Joao. So... no, he didn't influence me at all, and I have chat logs that can prove it.

(FWIW, in retrospect, I think my pre-game ranking of Vicky, Suleiman, then Joao was dead-on so I'd still pick Vicky or Suleiman first if we re-did this game tomorrow. So no, Joao is not the best leader for this game. I'm happy to debate this though if anyone would like, this game has been utterly fascinating to me)

Also, I'll consider this game concluded. As for the question of who wins, I say we all lose when you get a sour ending like this. Too bad. Most of the thread reading may have to wait until the weekend unless I get some extra time tonight. I'll probably start with the lurker thread and work my way up somehow.

While this game is a failure from a satisfying ending standpoint due to what happened, I do hope it's considered a success from a game design standpoint. Seven designed an excellent map and one of the best PBEM scenarios we've had here. I would happily play another game on this kind of setup - with the trait/tech bonuses/maluses. I love the idea of skewing the early choices that way thumbsup. Hopefully this isn't the last game that uses that.

So I wanted to give a last post here.

I just want to apologize to everyone involved in the game for my role in killing it. There was a lot of great stuff in the threads I've read so far. I personally think I was not up to standard. I never spent even close to half the time that some of you guys did. I simply had spread myself too thin over too many games here at RB, and its something I'm not going to do again. I think that I will endeavor to bring my total game count down to 1 and keep it there from now on. Serdoa and Scooter in particular played excellent games and I'm sorry we didn't get to play it out.

I also want to apologize to you, Serdoa. I am me and I'm apparently a dwarf according to Mist. Not sure if that's offensive to me or offensive to dwarves. The point is that my personal distrust of you had seeds in PBEM 14 and I let it effect me here as well. I accept your explanation of the Island chariot attack, though I still don't accept the galley explanation and PLEASE don't think I'm asking for more clarification or trying to start an argument I'm just telling you what I feel, full disclosure. I didn't want to play on because of me and how I felt. I should have been calmer and less rash wiht my statements in the tech thread. I wish we had gotten a replacement, but things went down pretty quick and I think it's for the best that the game was buried.

And just so you guys know, I believe both Serdoa and Scooter outplayed me. I don't want this to be some self-serving apology or something, because I am sincere. I'm stubborn, I'm opinionated, I'm hot-headed, I'm aggressive, I'm tunnel-visioned, but I never want to hurt anyone and I know when I make mistakes and I'm willing to apologize. So this is my apology the everyone involved including the lurkers.

On a brighter note, I agree that the game format was both interesting and successful for a PBEM. I also think that it spawned a lot of great comments/strategy going forward and I hope to see another game like this.

I was having fun until I went back into the sub-forum. I dropped out of reporting, or going near the threads, for about a month, as reporting on the game was the least interesting thing I could do or not do (playing was fun).

But looking at what happened here with the grousing and bad blood, calling the game was probably the best idea.

I was probably the last player in the game based on my play being a bit ropey and my demogs being near the bottom, but I think I learned a few things from this one and hopefully will be better next time.

Thanks for the game and see ye all around.
