The new theme was energetic, powerful, full of sweeping strings and strong vocals. It won't have quite the same impact as Baba Yetu, but that's a pretty high bar.
It was being filmed, so I expect they'll be releasing it officially fairly soon. Watch out for Christopher Tin getting so excited in the finale that he accidentally lets go of his conductor's baton, which flies into the crowd.

They've published some leader descriptions and France seems to be led by Catherine Medici, which is actually quite cool, but:
Catherine kept the French monarchy intact as she championed both policies of compromise with the rebellious Protestant class and later more hardline stances against them.
Yes, I'm going to take a more hardline stance and massacre you all during a peace treaty negotiation.

Catherine leading France is rather odd. 1) she's not french, 2) her role in the St Bartholomew massacre is a big shade on her time as leader of France.
To be honest, if they really wanted a woman as french leader they chose the best one (pretty much the only one too). It's just that the salic law made it very hard for women to lead the country. I'd have expected Phillip IV or Henri IV if they wanted a new leader. Both of whom would have been really cool, and with a more straightforward record.

If they wanted a female French leader a lot for some reason they should have just bit the bullet and picked Joan of Arc then.
Mao and Stalin killed more people than Hitler and they got in 4 but 5 and 6 aren't like 2/3/4 atmospherically.

Henry of Navarre is totally underrepresented in popular media, including gaming, would be good to see him. It would also be fun if they threw a curveball and included Henry V as a leader of both England and France (or any of the Plantagenets, really). To pacify the Dauphins' supporters, in the same edition they could have Henry III Valois as a leader of both France and Poland, and maybe Vladislav IV as a leader of both Poland and Russia. If nothing else, that would get them so much media coverage.

There'd be riots in the streets
Or they could put Charles VII in for France to counter it, that would work

I saw some of the leader art at CFC recently. The style did not rub well on me. I have never disliked Civ leader art -- it was never the most urgent thing going on for me. Not even sure why I dislike this batch at first sight, but I saw images for over half a dozen of them and they all bugged me. I'm surprised at the intensity of my negative feelings about it. Art doesn't often drive me away.
Since the leader art is why the game costs $60USD instead of $40 or less, I am not sure where this leaves me. I could surely live with the leader art bugging me if the rest of the game is truly awesome, but I think it's putting a damper on the thought of buying immediately.
Anyone else have thoughts on the leader art (who's seen it)?

I fully agree with you Sirian. I'm hoping that they chose the new art style specifically to reduce the cost of making leaders, so that we could end up with more of them. I don't know if they really are cheaper to make, but they sure do look so.

I never liked plastecene-cartoon graphics, which is the vibe they are going for, but I also never cared about leader art at all. Animated they look a bit more bearable, stills are particularly depressing.

Why would you think that?
I would think the game costs 60 because it's managed to stay in the AAA category, and that's the standard price anymore for a AAA game at release. I suppose the art is part of how they justify AAA, but it's definitely not just the leader-art that counts toward that!
Claiming leader heads are worth $20 seems to me like claiming the sesame seeds are the reason Big Macs are so expensive.
