Pre-Release CIV VI Discussion

For all the detail of the individual leaders it would be useful to understand their functional differences by watching a straight up match between humans. With so many different kinds of bonuses it's easy to inflate the number of leaders, but that doesn't inform which advantages are actually important—the number of viable competitive leaders could be far lower than the total number of leaders. Here's to wishing for a deity or multiplayer playthrough popcorn

Well I did look at Quill's video and I'm pretty sure that I'm right about inverted foodboxes.

I don't think that's the image you meant to post. But I could be wrong about that.

Anyway, it seems to me that growth slows as you approach the housing cap and stops entirely once you hit it. I can't confirm or deny an inverted foodbox--were you intending to link an image of that?

Was just a random image to test if PM space used the same space as images (the answer is no) and to reflect it's lol that one of my crack theories is right for once.

See Post #322 to see how to calculate foodbox size. It would be the same here but last time we could have not seen something. Not anymore--we saw a size 1 city grow to 2 and then grow much faster to 3.

Apparently in a dev stream today they may have accidentally leaked the remaining leaders:

I haven't been following it super closely, so I'm not sure who of this list we already knew. Kongo is an interesting addition (oh, the hours I spent trying to get the African Power achievement in EU4), and does the presence of both Gorgo and Pericles imply that they are splitting the traditional Greek civilization into Athens and Sparta? Or are they pulling a Civ 4 and giving us multiple leaders for a civ?

In other news, I am a little skeptical of Tokimune for Japan, but I'm prepared to be convinced. For someone who carries the same amount of historical weight as Tokugawa, why not the Meiji Emperor?

EDIT: Scratch everything, I just saw https://embed.gyazo.com/e5fe3637822c8953...4b43d5.png linked further down thread and I am now incredibly excited to play as Trajan.

Multiple leaders for a Civ seems probable, in some UI elements from various recordings we've seen language phrased in such a way to allow it: "America gains Rough Riders as a unique unit when Teddy Roosevelt leads" or something to that effect. Though from the list we've seen only Greece currently has an alternate leader (though other information suggests that Isabella may be coming for Spain in early DLC content). Plus, the math adds up better for "18 civs on launch" (this was said by Ed Beach earlier, that we'd have 18 Civs in the base game) but we have 20 leaders revealed. Monty doesn't count because he's a pre-order bonus, which leaves 19 leaders for 18 civs.

Did you ever get the eu4 achievement, picklepikkl? I think I've done half a dozen attempts and always have to contend with a strong Spain who then wrecks me.

No; I've tried a bunch of times in various patch/DLC cycles, but never quite got off the ground. Even in my best attempts, after westernizing, I was so behind in monarch points that I couldn't tech & expand, and doing only one or the other got me killed by Europeans. My most recent shot was after the map changes to Central Africa, but that's a ton of really crappy land and I almost feel I would have been better off ignoring it somehow.

I like strategy games a lot, but I've never been particularly good at them :P I think the hardest EU4 achievement I have done is This Is Persia! or A Sun God.

I have to say, I'm quite puzzled by the whole Faith alternative economy. Theocracy lets you build units with Faith and you can use Faith for patronage of great people, plus follower beliefs can make Faith buildings into powerhouses, which provide both food and housing.

I am surprised how much interested in Civ6. What happened between this, and Civ5? I don't recall anyone having interested in 5.
