I tried to write a detailed post and got stuck, but the gist of it was this: You aren't part of the game once the team is destroyed, in which case any actions that you would have done as a player are no longer available. Sending the email with the infomation before you had died (if hte attack had been in 2 parts for instance) would have been fine, but sending it after the fact is a little iffy...
Again, that's my 2c. So long as the rules are enforced evenly it should be OK.
Edit: Darrell is correct. To go deeper into the strategy it is a trade off that the attacker makes, attacking quickly and guessing or slowly and simming it out, which means it's the attackers decision on what to do.
