Waterbat spends '104 Days of Summer Vacation'
|
|
Wow waterbat, that's some serious business you've got there. Quite a bit like my first game.
Civilization IV: 21 (Bismarck of Mali), 29 (Mao Zedong of Babylon), 38 (Isabella of China), 45 (Victoria of Sumeria), PB12 (Darius of Sumeria), 56 (Hammurabi of Sumeria), PB16 (Bismarck of Mali), 78 (Augustus of Byzantium), PB56 (Willem of China)
Hearthstone: ArenaDrafts Profile No longer playing Hearthstone.
Looks like a good time to update the sandbox. Chopping the mids now would be a mistake in my opinion. If someone truly wants them this early they can have them. I'd be going The Wheel, Pottery while getting corn sharing and stone hill city up. Then reconsider the mids once the city is roaded.
t21:
I definitely need to get the sim up before next turn. The worker has nothing to do! Demographics: ![]() #1 in score! #1 in food #4 in prod #2 in gold my mine finished, so when i switch to it (for 1 extra hammer into our settler), we are: #3 food #2 prod #2 gold #6 in soldiers! C&D: we only jumped in score because of the 17 points for land (all CREs got this bonus early) Azza grew to size 5 - are they keeping MP in their main cities? we havent had to, but i am thinking of stopping my warrior as he passes through to grow to size 5. i should probably pop another military unit out then. either that, or we revolt and whip something just after growing. xenon teched something in 7t soldiers when up 8000 and given that zenon teched something in the 95-105 beaker range, i figured maybe it was bronze working. nope- min rival solders went from 11k - 15k. i suppose catwalk could have gotten out a spearman in 1t?? 4k left, again that would leave xenon with a 4k tech, but he started with wheel. im giving him AH - soldier points be damned. Interesting as the only civ i dont have with AH yet is Egypt - and i'd think he'd want it quick for War Chariots. It is possible of course he squeezed out AH faster than i thought and he has NOT researched pottery. superjm still didnt grow. its t22 - he started with mining and agriculture. lets say he used his starting techs (unlike i did) to good effect. he could have farmed the corn straight away after making a worker. so that would be a 8 turnj worker.. 13 turns for something else. if he went straight settler - that would be 8fhpt after farming (5 before) so he'd have finished the settler around t18 - and that;s only 3 turns ago - so he could be poised to grow any minute. he could have even fit in a warrior in there perhaps and didnt grow (if he worked a forest) - he would then be finishing up his settler about now. Interesting that i have him finish fishing at t17 - what would he need it for at that time? anyway - i moved to the opponent's oasis in the northwest - im going to *finally* met someone! we're going to get married, i just know it. Soldiers: total 88000 The following has devolved into a total fabrication: Azza: 17000 Catwalk: 19000 Xenon: 17000 Archduke: 15000 superjm: 20000

Hey Waterbat - got your PM. It's a bit tricky to go through all of this since y ou're already 20t in and plus it's more difficult in a game with 6 players.
If you have specific C&D questions I'm happy to help
ok thanks rego - was hoping you could just look at the soldier columns and score columns and work your magic - i guess you also pay close attention to food/crop numbers too - i havent really done that - although they are all there.
Ill try to put some solid specific questions together.

Playing in the Sandbox
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19053792/pbem37...dSwordSave sandbox attached. It is 2 hammers behind than the real thing. I apparently forgot to put a turn into the farm before moving to the cow, but somehow the worker still finished everything on time without a wasted turn. I also noticed that i delayed fishing (and therefore bronze working by a turn by not paying close attention to the beaker count.. finished one turn at 37/38 ![]() anyway - this is caught up - I will try to find a way to get those 2 hammers evened out not sure where the worker should go next - i could always put turns into pre-chops, but looking for something more interesting - the warrior on the corn is headed back to the cap for escort or MP duty - whatever we need. other 2 warriors are at the edge of known space - i probably will not be updating the land portion of the sandbox again... maybe if we need to --- but seems our sandbox is getting big enough. clarification: right now the settler in the real game is 38 of 65 in the sandbox he is 36/65 so the timing will not be affected. Because I am working all the best tiles in the real game though, I cant make up the 2. I was off by 2 food to the better as well, but that was easier to rectify and I did so on t16-17. Please - anyone have a go at this - don't be shy!

for anyone doing the sandbox - it looks like you need to work the riverside grass mine instead of the riverside grass farm before hitting the first END TURN (t21->t22).

NEW SANDBOX NOW WITH MORE ACCURACY
so this is the same turn -well SoT 22 instead of EoT 21. I fixed the working the RGM instead of the RGF, but more importantly - i adjusted the hammers to be correct. As I posted earlier - I needed 2 more hammer. 2 more hammer.... 2 more hammer.... we are making 8 hammers. 2 more hammers is 25% of 8. If only there is a building that i could edit it just for this turn that would give us a 25% bonus to production. If only it was called "Furnace" or something. Yep - we built a Furnace... aka Forge... without bronze working. Shortly thereafter, we realized our heresy and burned it to the ground. So now we should be good to go. Sandbox: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19053792/pbem37...dSwordSave EDIT: keep an eye out for tiles that don't have freshwater that should - even though the rivers look correct, i've seen the corners be ambiguous at times - sometimes freshwater, sometimes not depending on how I used the river tool in WB.

i put some notes about the 2 detailed sims that I did. I didnt have the heart to track every little thing. I made a spreadsheet for it, but ended up just putting in notes.
TL;DR: I am going to go found the stone site first, but not directly on the stone - closer in. because of the timing of bronze working, i'd waste a turn settling the closer city. Also! who cares about corn sharing when there are floodplains around? I did not realize how great they are - and there are TONS of them up north. It makes me want to go settle the 2 hills on the mirror line. That would be a little more than our share of the land up there, but wow, its fertile. We'd control like 20+ flood plains. Not much production up there. maybe with all that food we could run engineers or whatever specs give us hammers? because of the late corn sharing, we have to be wary of the capital growing too fast and getting angry - i.e. you can whip it at size 5 and it will bounce rght back to size 5 next turn. Also i did stack whip anger here because it seemed doable - it expires right at t39 when the granary finishes, so its perfect timing. Here is a screenshot of the second sim to turn 40: ![]() approximate list of builds: capitol: finish settler, move to RGF 1t warrior 3t workboat (move back to RGM) *revolt* with 1t to go (just before capitol would grow to size 6), give up some food, and whip 4t settler 2t warrior (should grow) whip 4t worker 5t granary (grow twice) (on t40 -- not sure what to do - since back at size 5, probably going to what to whip it) stone city: fast worker, workboat (for clams) close city: fast worker, workboat (for crabs) worker moves: farm south of cap, then have some time to kill - i moved to the PH and mined road hill while on it then move to rice, farm and road it then move to cottage (west of other worker) worker from stone city moves to cottage close FP tile, road, then mine gold hill worker from close city moves to cottage second worker from cap pre-chops
