PBEM32! Tech Thread

I won't get to the save today, not sure on tomorrow. Sorry for that, I expected no issues today but that didn't keep them from coming up and tomorrow is my birthday, so probably also not easy to find the time I need for the game right now.

Ok, I let this go and didn't talk about it publicly because I was hoping it'd be solved in my own thread, and I also didn't want to invite spoilers... But I would like to briefly talk about the "cheating allegations" that caused a minor freak-out here.

I was the person in question; however, it was not recent at all. Probably around a month ago I had a particularly frustrating turn which was especially beneficial to Serdoa, so I vented in my thread and made some comments that more or less inferred cheating. I shouldn't have ever done that in a public manner, but we've all said things we regret when frustrated about a game we've invested in heavily. Anyways, I very quickly edited it out because character assassinating someone in a manner where they cannot read and defend themselves for months is not fair ever. It also was not a post that would've been written had I not written it when I was upset about the way the game was going. Regardless, it was up for a very short time, and then I removed it, and I very intentionally removed it because I regretted saying it like that. No comments were made about it in my thread between the time I posted and removed it, and I BELIEVE the lurker thread was not updated in that period (my memory is hazy, but when I edited it I think I remember seeing that the lurker thread hadn't been updated in days).

So anyways, I don't even know how many people had seen it, but it was a long time ago, and I'm not sure why there's been a recent reaction to something I removed from my thread a month ago.

Regardless, it appears that this info was read by someone and transmitted to Serdoa. I am not okay with this, and I'd like an explanation. I'm not mad really, but it's never ok to tell a player something written in another thread without very explicit permission. I've asked a couple times in my thread, but no one has stepped forward about it, so the only person who knows who passed the info is Serdoa. So Serdoa, would you mind explaining who told you? So that it's clear, I'm not mad and I'm NOT insinuating that nobody told you, but I would like an explanation on why info from my thread was passed to another player, and I would like assurances that it won't happen again. I'm very liberal in showing all sorts of information about my game in my thread and reporting in great detail, and I'd like assurances that I can continue to do that without an unknown 3rd-party passing info out of it.

Sorry that a couple things in the post are a tiny bit spoilery, which is why I was avoiding posting this for a long time... But I gave it a lot of time for someone to fess up in my thread and it didn't happen, so I figure asking publicly should solve it. smile

Finally, Serdoa, you probably didn't know it was me who made the comments, but I am sorry. Again, the comments were borne out of frustration with my own poor play, but there's a reason I removed them pretty quickly. Hopefully you won't feel so bad knowing it was just me venting and redacting the venting and it wasn't a full-scale public assault or anything. wink

*cough* Welll, heh, might not be you there Scooter. My own griping was much more recent, and actually more in the vein of "how in the seven merry hells does the RNG love him this much", for it truly does. If I thought there had been actual funny business, I'd have said something to Serdoa. Like Scooter said, spoiler thread, not public thread.

What is not cool is that apparently something I said in my thread, or Scooter said in his thread, or we both said in our threads, is apparently the same as talking to Serdoa. I really enjoy updating these games even when I'm screwed blued and tattooed. Um. So. Whodunit?

I griped recently in frustration as well, though, after the whole thing had already happened in the tech thread, which I guess is ironic. lol

On another note, I just realized the save is with me, and I'm goign ot go play it. duh

K Serdoa just won another 30% battle that he could have taken earlier but only took this turn. I'm done trying to win and am ready to concede at any point that everyone else is ready.

To make it clear... I don't think I'm going to play any more turns.

Brian you have a vote one way or the other? I'm fine with playing on or ending it, either way.

Ok I'll be honest, I'm really enjoying this game and would like it if we played on. However, I'm wondering how feasible that is given Lewwyn may not be willing to play on and we still haven't heard from Serdoa..?

Well, I'm here. But you posted at 0:17 my time scooter and I was asleep at that time. When I woke up I rushed to work and was working all day... I know, unheard of, but it happens sometimes. And now, coming home at ~18:00 I decided to get first something to eat and talk with my wife. So yeah, I think it makes sense that I didn't answer till now, no?

Anyhow, as for Lewwyns accusation: Yes I could have taken that battle earlier, no I did not. No that has nothing to do with me cheating. Actually I have explained this one in my thread because I already expected that I would get called cheater again (and no, one has not always to type it out to state something). But to explain that: Your galley was sitting there and my galley was sitting there and I didn't like it - so I started a Trireme in a nearby city. Then you moved a settler into your city next to the galley. Then that settler and one military unit disappeared. I assumed that they might have moved onto the galley and as I am not interested in you settling on me and my Trireme being finished I decided to give it a shot, knowing that I would not have to fear anything if I lost (I would have whipped a second unit in my nearby city in that case so that I would have been save IF you had 2 military units on your galley and moved them in to attack, and the galley itself would have died to the Trireme).

Shall I explain other circumstances as well? I mean hey, at least everyone gets some free intel on me, great isn't it?

Ok, now for scooters question: I was told by a friend whom I introduced to this forum because I kept talking about these games to him. He was told by me that he has not to tell me anything about what my opponents do and he never did. He actually didn't even say a name, just mentioned that there are rumors about me cheating.

As for the game itself: I couldn't care less. I really had much fun with it (the first thread I ever updated regularly should speak for itself), but after all that fuss about me playing how I play and being called cheater even AFTER Seven checked on my play for you guys to make sure I play fair, I really lost any interest I had. If we call it, just name scooter winner of this one and everyone got what he wanted - well, except Commodore I guess, no Cataphracts for you without Iron and Horses :neenernee edit: What of course I only achieved because I cheated. rolleye

That galley was only one instance where I think you're reloading. The other is much more difficult for you to explain away and honestly with the galley and settler idea there was no place for me to "settle on you". It was all in your culture and I would have had to get past your galley, so no I don't buy it. There was no reason in the slightest for me to put my settler on the galley. And if I had... wouldn't I have moved the galley instead of having it sit there? Why would I move my settler on to a galley and not move it? You don't expect me to believe that you actually thought that. That's a terrible excuse. The trireme is more likely, but then why not just wait till you built the trireme and attack my galley with the trireme instead? You are viking so with 3 moves you could have sniped my galley which had been sitting there for 3 turns and was obviously simply blocking you access to my city. Your excuse is very thin.

The worst was the WE and the chariot attack on my island city. I had an axe and a chariot in my island city. You had a WE and a chariot in your galley. I had a spear in a galley ready to unload next turn. You attack with the WE at the city and kill the axe. Fine. I have a chariot in the city. You have a chariot left in the galley. You have 20% odds to kill teh chariot and the city but you do not attack. Next turn I put the spear into the city. Then your turn again, you attack with the WE again at 30% odds. You sac the WE and redline my spear. Now you have the chariot in your galley and I have the chariot in my city. Same odds as last time, 20%, except this time you attack and you win. This leaves only my redlined spear in the city and you finish it off with the chariot next turn before I can get another unit in the city.

Why didn't you take the 20% odds with the Chariot Vs Chariot when it was the only unit I had left in the city? Instead you wait to the next turn when you're in the same position, same odds. Only difference is a new seed.

I'm sorry I no longer trust you enough to play PBEM with you. That's all there is to it. I will happily play a pitboss or online game with you. And I will happily play WW with you. I'm not going to hold a grudge or anything, I'm totally over it.

Also, this has no bearing on what you did in other elements of the game. You did extremely well with your picks, the wonders and you played an awesome game there. I didn't even realize WE's were unbanned until you hit me with one. Kudos on all of that. But I don't trust you anymore not to to reload combat. That's all there is to it.
