Speaking of spaceships, do you have any idea where the spaceship launch bug is coming from? Is it just Pitboss, or related to the mod specifically?

I don't know, but Plako might.

What is the spaceship-launch bug?
and does it effect gameplay/ win conditions?

(August 9th, 2015, 08:18)Krill Wrote: The 2.x mod versions had tech cost increases at the start of the renaissance era that ended up scaling to 200% of base tech cost.
The 3.x mod version use that tech cost scaling, plus the renaissance era techs increase in steps of 10% from 100% of base cost to 140% of base cost.
The late era tech costs in 3.x are not as high as in 2.x, peaking at around the cost of Industrialism, and then stay fairly flat. Some other late era techs have had costs altered due to the utility they bring ie Robotics has been made much cheaper. All tech costs now scale much more based on map size, and early game tech costs basically don't scale much at all, and first row techs all cost the same (4 turn techs on Monarch/Normal) regardless of map size. This is the reason that tech cost scaling has been implemented. The overall increase in tech costs compared to base BtS is because it makes tech parity warfare viable in the Renaissance and later eras compared to sitting at home building research to the far future and crushing people with better units
There is an issue with SS probably being more viable than Culture unless culture is started earlier than it was in PB18. Frankly I'm waiting for PB18 to end for the fallout of this change to be argued over. I'm not in a rush.
Edit: Quote:Because, for instance, Engineering tech, at 1000 beakers, has NEVER changed, in any version. So I don't see how it could be with solely the application of an equation. Hence an explanation is necessary (because it wasn't the same changes across the board).
Engineering has a base cost of 1K beakers which is adjusted by game speed, difficulty and map size. The equation that calculates the cost was altered, so yeah, that cost will change between games so long as one of those aforementioned variables changes.
For, lets see, these techs:
- Currency
- Engineering
- Education
- Rifling
- Assembly Line
Could you post what the tech cost was in PB18 and what it will be in PB27, assuming that its a huge map? (spoiler alert: the 23 player PB27 map will be a huge size map )
edit: I ask because it could really help the discussion to have a comparison like that. My personal feeling is that cheaping ancient-era techs on a huge map is a big plus, but I'm worried if the Medieval/Ren era techs are a lot cheaper because they felt about right in PB18.

I could do it but I'm lying on my bed and I'm not getting up until I go to see a doctor. My suggestion would be to check the figures first in PB18 then make a game with the relevant settings in 3.0.0.1.f andpost them.

I could do all that but I should probably stop posting so much today and work on the PB27 map. It's probably just worth discussing before PB27 starts if the numbers are very different.

I'm injured. Likelihood of me being productive here is pretty fucking low.

Was PB 18 with 2.0.7.4? (or a certain 2.0 version?)
I'm working for the drafts of my own modmod tbh, and I've got a good handle on tech costs IMHO, but eh ...
---> Also, historically medium ranged Nukes were made available a LONG time before ICBMs were relatively available. The True ICBM shouldn't be available until the end of the tech tree, imho. (Like at Laser + Fission)
alternatively modern ICBMs use Fusion for their 'Hydrogen Bomb' super component, so requiring Laser + Fusion isn't an impossible demand.
Medium range nukes (like tactical nukes, but maybe a bit more range) could still be available at Fission + Rocketry. And the technical A-bomb, (a bomber carrying a bomb, rather than a rocket) should be the only thing available at just fission.
And guided missiles make more sense at Laser ... since usually they are laser-guided. Non-Guided missiles (like the V-2 rocket) would make more sense at rocketry.
