[no players] Lurkers' paradise for PBEM3

I am now convinced that Ichabod will steamroll them all. I'd like to see someone stand up to the thread and getting others to join. suboptimal could go military all the way, if he had the backing of America and India. Since he has to fear their backstabbing, he can't really go all the way out.

They all thought that they can just happily build districts etc without developing a military. Not gonna work, I have painfully experienced it in PBEM2.
+ if you are on a Pangaea map, building an early district is pretty much a self destruct, if there is an opportunistic player around.

Yes, about that:

Bacchus Wrote:Player eliminated! Judging from the score, Ichabod captured a city-state. That would put him on 5 cities and well ahead of everyone. Unfortunately I have no idea whether any sort of coalition is possible out there in the west to stop him, I don't even know what the west looks like.
Bacchus seems to have the right idea here, but he's also the furthest-removed from Ichabod and lacks the contacts and map knowledge to initiate this plan.

I'm not sure he's aware of suboptimal's situation where he could take Kaiser's capital with full commitment and thus get a tenable position against Ichabod, but only if India backs him up against America, or alternatively both of them join him in a coalition (while probably planning to have him absorb the lion's share of Ichabod's strike later).

It seems like a general good rule on Pangaea free-for-alls to support the most central civ when a nation on the edge grows threatening, because it will have the hardest time defending its gains.

The problem with diplomacy is that when others don't see the world roughly as you do, investing resources into contacts and good relations will not pay off as much as continuing to invest in domestic advantages -- or at least, the latter gives you the feeling of remaining competitive until it's too late. But even if the three eastern players did all sign declarations of friendship with each other, Ichabod would probably be alerted to how they view him (as the game-ending threat already) and likely seek to strike earlier while they can't unite their forces or hold defensive positions yet due to lacking logistics / encampments.

And the hard-wired DoFs prevent some of the danger of opportunistic break-ups in such coalitions, but only if their expiration dates are well-timed in the interests of everyone involved, which I imagine will be difficult to coordinate across three parties.

Interesting how the misinterpretation of that 1 gold for one gold deal from suboptimal by pindicator completely revealed all his intentions around Japan. Talk about miscommunication - that one's pretty hilarious! lol

The problem I have with this PBEM is the relative lack of updates. I am actually wondering whether the game is currently on a hiatus or nobody bothers to update any longer?

There seems to be a general trend on RB of people wasting time on getting married, breeding, finding jobs or focusing on education. A most unfortunate development underscoring the general "going down the toilet" that seems to have gripped the world. In 4 they are even taking holidays rant .  In my days we took gaming seriously. Such a shame after 1 and 2 showed us how entertaining Civ VI could be if someone else bothered to play it and report extensively on their every move. Eh well, there is at least still clouds to shout at, and Arsenal to piss away another season.

If the current QoTM wasn't so good, I would say this should replace it immediately.

Still, I do wish the players here would report a little more. @Singaboy, I guess we'll just have to wait until the end of PBEM4 and read each other's threads  twirl

I can't figure out which of Ichabod or Suboptimal will get Kikyo. Can't even figure out who's more likely to take it from Kaiser, let alone who's going to come out ahead from wrestling over his corpse. And definitely can't ask Ichabod to clarify his timetable.
