Why would we give up a working relationship just to antagonize them over our "better dotmap"? We're already making their city a turd by cutting off the big food resources. Why is it necessary to pink dot?

If you want to pink dot someone, better be sure it's someone you don't mind antagonizing. The downsides outweigh the benefits, for sure.

kjn's proposed pink dot is not a "Pink Dot" Apo Demo game style. At least not in my book. The current proposed spot 1S of the oasis, labelled pink dot is in the middle between CFc and us and valid by our mutual border agreement.
Red dot is even less pinkish and antagonizing. When Caledorn (?) mentioned where CFC intended to place their oasis city, most of those spots he listed would have their BFC extend the mutual border.
If the feeling is that red dot is already pushing things with CFC and creating friction, then Focal Point is as far as it gets towards CFC. And that would be ridiculous.
My opinion is that pink dot is only on the table if we fail to land Brick-by-Brick.
If Brick-by-Brick is settled as intended I advocate red dot, which is entirely feasible by the border agreement and not aggressive towards CFC. They can always put a wine city at the coast that challenges the fish as well.

Just to make it clear I think that the red dot is completely valid and something that CFC can't really contest nor be irked by and should be settled ASAP. The pink dot would make declare war based on the diplo that has preceded.

You mean you would declare war if you were CFC? Or we would be declaring war in settling such a spot?

Yep, Pink is way too ambitious. Don't even think about it. Red is fine, and I want it because it offers another way to threaten CFC later on.

The thing is that it wouldn't be just a war, it would probably be a game long hatred ending with them being the nexus of a giant anti-RB coalition.

Also there's better spots... I would veto it for the fact that there are just better spots to settle.

A giant anti-RB coalition is inevitable. I just want to delay it until it is too late.

As has been stated some times before, how many examples of successful dogpiles have we seen here? I think it's none. And this map is much like PB7 in that distances are huge, making the dogpile situation even worse.

I trust that Scooter can keep the diplo situation under control, and with APTmod we can follow the military developments among our neighbours in great detail. We will have WC's soon, giving us a qualitative military edge that no team here can match for a long while, and our research is such that we will have a real technological edge once any far away team can reach us.

And then add in that we have one team that's likely not interested in diplo play (CivPlayers), and at least two that have real diplomatic communication issues that we can get language brownie points with (the Spanish and the Germans).

Compared to PB2, where the 5-1 dogpile actually got organised but executed terribly bad, I expect any dogpile here will amount to a 3-1 at best, coming piecemeal, ie more like a succession of 1-1s.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width

I agree with kjn.

Any world skyline is inconceivable pre railroad IMO.
at which point we should have modern armor and the icecaps melted fully.

Even a dogpile of niebers won't be plausible pre-knights and good luck getting wpc and the Germans to help each other out, our biggest threat is from someone we haven't met to the south being persuaded that we are vulnerable to a HA rush.

fairly certain there are only penguins to the south.

I think that the point about pink vs. red dot is that pink dot is not that great a site. Right now CFC is friendly why antagonize them for so little reason? If that spot claimed something like horses, then I would have been all for it, but it claims stone which we will already have.
