Looking back, it was probably Byzantium's early elimination that ruined the game for India. Without that conflict, Kathlete wouldn't have had a leftover army, and even if the CoW were put together, Byzantium would probably have chosen India's side. (At least that's my instinct, of course that team can comment on that hypothetical situation themselves...)
Definitely agree on both counts here.

yeah - it is all regoarrarr and sunrises fault!
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

The wildcard in this one was Whosit. If Whosit had played more self-centeredly, he'd be crushing the Inca right now instead. It might be the right call for him, but his entrance was never guaranteed. Also, if DMOC and Nakor only had to worry about Dantski, then they might have attacked Dantski, taken his cities, and been a useful ally to Spullla.
Spullla's gone over why it's been good for Kathlete to send just their leftover HA/chariot army, and they've really put themselves in the driver's seat with their two wars.
Krill's right: Tech trading makes it much easier to buy allies, even from the game leader's position, and also to catch up from a deficit. With tech trading, Spullla could have cut a deal with at least somebody, and the other teams wouldn't be as scared. A 5v3, with Spullla carrying water for Korea and the Inca, would be interesting, plausible, and far more even than this 5v1v1v1.

Tech Trading = your screwed if it's on, screwed if it's off.
At a guess if spulla are elminated then this game will become boring and stale, which is a shame.
I would agree that losing an experienced pitboss team early has skewed the meta game badly, there are a lot of inexperienced (my opinion - based on limited knowlege of the players) pitboss teams here who have not really grasped the overall longer term picture. They seem to be keen to rid the game of good teams without regard for the later stages. All that said if they hadn't have acted now then I suspect they would have been picked off one at a time in the mid stages of the game.

I doubt they will be eliminated if they try to hold to their cities if the CoW is not putting a bit more energy, they won't capture any city (except maybe the preatorians).
AND Rome is already planning the nxt war vs Inca, and/or korea with some neighbours.
I also do hope that Jowy/Dantski will start getting mad at Nakor/Athlete for not sending enough troops..

If we trace the meta all the way back, then the key move is Byzantium's overambitious settling on Ottoman's borders. That triggered Kathlete to turn their game around from the turnplay, and especially, the diplo perspective: they used this incident as the starting point to build significant relationships with the other teams which soon enough lead to CoW.
Spulla's big mistake was trying to do an Imperio (and, if we're honest, an RB until we discovered a perfect match in Donovan Banana) and play all ends against the middle. If they had asked either of Jowy or Dantski early on for a long term alliance I'm sure they'd have jumped at the chance ('Spulla wants to be my BFF: '). It wouldn't matter that their turnplay might be ... all the better to finish them off in the end-game.

One of the problems of Sullla's diplomacy is carefully edited messages. They just don't sound honest.
