Gaspar and NobleHelium - More Arguments About Buildings & Food.

We played the turn just now. Warrior discovered quite literally a lot of nothing. We argued about NobleHelium's bias towards mapmakers based on how much he likes them. I on the other hand hate all mapmakers regardless of how I feel about them otherwise. Just thought you'd all like to know that NH is a biased hypocrite. wink

Yuri gained 8 points? Don't ask me, he's the C&D guy.

We named our first two workers Invulnerable Minions (my least favorite ability) and Fire Chains (Noble's least favorite.) Feel free to vote for your least favorite ability for the next worker. wink

Eight points is still pop. It rounds up for the second point I guess.

Chariots? Chariots? No chariots... frown

Sorry Lewwyn, no horsies = no chariots.

Commodore teched BW. Mistabod got a no-power tech, which should be Fishing. Coastal second city, perhaps.

We played turn 20 and met Commodore.

And we argued a lot.

(Not included is that we've done some simming today and we're not really able to claim Copper all that quickly, so there are some concerns about whether we should tech Archery or not. I prefer a "wait and see" approach and think Gaspar is overreacting a bit to 24.)

me: hey
so i finish the first post-settler warrior at size 2
do you finish the worker after that, or start another warrior first?
Gaspar: I think I tried it both ways
preferred finishing the worker
me: what kind of stuff are you doing with the new city?
building workers at size 1? heh
Gaspar: Old Ruins?
me: yes
Gaspar: I grow it to size 3 on warriors iirc
random question
is it worth gambling on iron being in that hill and researching IW?
i mean it could be coal
me: uhhh
probably not lol
iron is nearly the cost of mathematics
Gaspar: i guess the better question
me: you're overthinking it
Gaspar: no
just throwing it out there
me: what's the better question
clearly what we should do is ORACLE IRON WORKING
Gaspar: was if we knew iron was in that hill, would IW be worth it
lol
answer is probably still no
which answers the lesser question
me: if we knew, it'd only be worth it if it means we plant a better third city AND we get access to the iron at about the same time as copper
which i think neither is true, and at most the former is true
Gaspar: Yeah
really wish we had a spot to plant city 3 that didn't require 4 roads
turn
me: yeah i opened it
commodore
west
lol
Gaspar: opening as we sopeak
ugh
if we get remotely ahead/build a good wonder we can expect his now trademark stacks of ancient trash
me: DISCOUNT ON HUNTING IF WE TECH IT WHILE PRODUCING MORE THAN 13 BEAKERS
Gaspar: it also means we'll have a harder time expanding in that direction
because he settles too wide
me: there's kinda a desert there
Gaspar: so he'll grab more territory
me: it's possible that we might have to fight for the marble
we could just commodore him before he commdores us
BRILLIANT
Gaspar: lol
me: who the fuck is pete abrams
Gaspar: dunno
me: wow yuris's score is going up a lot
it's almost like he's playing joao
Gaspar: webcomics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sluggy_Freelance
do you know what this means?
SOMEONE HAS A THEME DORKIER THAN OURS!
me: that's just a retarded theme
Gaspar: Yuri's going to win this game
if we don't figure out a way to get going faster tongue
me: well we can always blame commodore
Gaspar: Fucking HC
I DON'T WANT TO BLAME COMMODORE I WANT TO STOP LOSING ALL THE GODDAMNED TIME
me: its fine
Gaspar: (those caps were for actual emphasis, not ironic humor)
me: we had a 50% chance of being next to commodore
Gaspar: Should have taken willem ; ;
(turn 20 new record for giving up?)
me: and that's assuming ring formation when it might be closer to a mesh
anyway if you didn't want to play isabella vs darius and hc then you should have just gone with a snake pick
Gaspar: i wanted a map more friendly to isabella
me: we both know it would have been meaningless to do this game setup with willem
24 was a very rare map
i mean
Gaspar: i didn't want 24
me: there have been maps that are isabella friendly
but those games also didn't allow fin
Gaspar: but id have settled for something more isabella friendly than this
i cant play with you
me: what i mean is
Gaspar: i need a partner who is an optimist to balance me
you're just as fucking negative as I am
maybe moreso
me: i'm the one fucking telling you that it's fine
that we started next to commodore
i don't give a shit
Gaspar: you're telling me were going to lose because we didn't snake pick
me: no
i'm telling you that it's the same as before and you should stop whining because you didn't want a snake pick
Gaspar: I wanted this combination, yes
I think I'm just disheartened by my sandboxing
this just isn't going to be a fast start
me: i'm saying that there hasn't been a flat map played since 24
although i guess thise arly in the game
flatness doesn't matter
Gaspar: anyway, whatever
warrior S or SW?
me: definitely not S
either SW or like recall
but i don'
tt hink we need to recall
Gaspar: nah, we have another warrior
this one can explore
me: ok sw
Gaspar: fascinating
new warrior?
towards OR?
me: S onto the worker?
Gaspar: yeah, I suppose that's the safer play
me: since we know commodore is to the west and he started with a scout
he's not going to send a warrior at us anytime soon
Gaspar: though if it took commodore 20t to get here with a scout
and we know he just goes off trying to meet people instead of properly scouting his nearby area
we're probably safe from an exploring warrior for a bit
ok, warrior onto fire chains
cap working wheat and sheep
end turn?
me: put a sign on the scout
Gaspar: k
me: hmm wait
ok nm
commodore did put 4 EPs on us
that means we're probably his first contact
Gaspar: yeah
me: do you want to set his EP level to 1
Gaspar: you can report because im completely dejected
me: just in case we meet someone
Gaspar: eh
if we meet yuri next turn
im way more interested in his graphs than commodores
me: well we can switch that next turn if that happens
i just don't want to accidentally spread out EPs
Gaspar: i already ended turn
but if you want to do that
me: i knew that was the REAL reason
Gaspar: and send off your save
i dont care
but you need to tell me
because otherwise ima send the save off
me: ok i'll send it

Commodore's Scout is named Pete Abrams.

Low score, hm, let me guess without looking: you started with 2 workers.

I'm not complaining about our score, it's fine. tongue

Naturally, we started with two workers.

We discovered a pretty nice site with the warrior - unfortunately a little farther out than we'd like.

At home we whipped a settler. Old Ruins gets founded in 2t. Of course the real reason we did this was score suppression. wink

Played turn 22.

We're in position to found Old Ruins next turn. We also finished the Wheel. We'll need to turn off tech next turn.

The overflow was dumped into a Settler. We'll grow to 2 and then straight finish the Settler with help from a chop.

Down in the south, Commodore continues to shadow us. I think he might just keep going south to look for his southern neighbor, actually. Which is just fine with us. Clearly that's why he picks Hunting starts, to scout for more contacts earlier. wink

yuris beat us to two cities, OMG!!!!!111 The bulk of the score spread accounts for the players settling first turn and those settling second. We haven't gotten land points yet.
