I think that the most fascinating part f the whole ordeal to me is that all of this conflict seems to be solely generated by the paranoia of the big three. Commodore is thinking that all those phracts might come hit him, so he builds lotsa defense. Mistabod sees lots of Commodorites being built, and figures obviously Commodore's going to attack him and that he must counterstrike before Commodore hits him.
Meanwhile, the 'Dore sees CKNs marching all around China, and NobleGas has a nice big picture of two Dorian workers on the border that are totally going to combat road. Plus there's this sense between those two teams that each one is totally vile scum and doesn't care about winning the game and will come screw them over at the evilest and most horrible time.
Now I know that none of these guys are bad players, bar silly mistakes that happen to everyone, but it seems like all this paranoia has gone a step beyond cautious and into the realm of self-fulfilling prophecy.
Plus Gaspar is 100% sure Commodore's going to win and everyone else is 100% sure Gaspar's going to win and all of this is everyone else's fault for not stopping them before they get too built up.

I find this game kind of weird, honestly. The enmity of Commodore and Gaspar (that I still don't quite get it), dave's crazy plan to get the Pyramids, Byzantium dancing around with the cataphracts in hostile territory, Gaspar ethernal pesimism about their position in the game (very slightly annoying), ...
I was hoping for some cataphract goodness but with an opponent whiping and upgrading pikemen everywhere even before the formal declaration and the other two strong teams so close to drafting and rifling, this was bound to happen.
Now we'll see if China really declares war on Holy Rome. That would be nuts and awesome at the same time.

But Commodore WAS going to attack Mistabod, right? I could have sworn I read that somewhere - he was going to tech up to rifles and take all of Mistabod's French gains.
I do like what Scooter said about declaring and demanding a city or 2 off of Dave for peace. I agree that that's something that just might have worked, allowing them to take their FULL army and send it somewhere else (if needed)

Yes, that was his plan.
In retrospect, despite:
Mist Wrote:Yuri's land is undeveloped jungled shit, that would have to be burned to the ground, reseeded with new cities and improved with countless turns of worker labor. That would also require a safe border with Dave ( absent, he did try to burn Bravery given slightest opportunity ). Assimilating Yuri would have us border both Gaspar and Commodore, we would not be able to defend that border. I still think this would have been the better move, given the premise that they have to use Cataphracts somewhere. Cats would make an excellent deterrent, I think, so long as they stayed in Byzantine borders. Or even - don't aim to completely finish Yuri, but constantly press forward at the rate of assimilation.
I'll admit, though, that my FFH instincts also believed that Mistabod would be able to run Dave over. I'm really not used to the defensive strength inherent in BtS.

I wonder when someone is going to polish off Yuris. Who thinks that Mistabod will try to retake Palaven before Rifles? I don't.
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

Well...I *thought* that was his plan. He seems content to stay back and build, though. Maybe it was just talk, and if it was, then Mistabod should have stayed out of Holy Rome.

I held off significantly more rifles and cavs in pbem 13 than Commodore could have gotten here. And that was with HA and cats. Mistabod have cataphracts. All the needed was to start razing cities and start replacing them with new cities to stop Commodore from walking up with a one mover stack. And conserve forces notvthrough them away without enough siege support.
