This is great thumbsup. I think this needs to be GLH city!

This, on the other hand, I demand an explanation for. I love Jack In The Box and wish we had it up in the north.

Breaking news!

The foolish hordes of India dared venture outside their pitiful walls to assault our vanguard impi force advancing on the meager town of SM. While we suffered losses and ultimately gave up our position, it was not without inflicting great casualties on the enemy!

Meanwhile, a small contingent of our fleet was sunk in a predawn naval engagement outside the fishing village of GA. Fortunately, we are now poised for a counterattack and will easily defeat the troublesome trireme menace.

A chariot detachment has vacated GA and will likely retake the newly rechristened city of IHOP. I recommend that we evacuate and retake the city at our leisure several days hence, with an impi regiment backed by archers.

(The archer and warrior attacking out had poor odds at 26.7% and 22.7% respectively, before doing enough damage for the last archer to get a guaranteed kill. We should swap to Research in IHOP so that we get an extra beaker. Commodore moved up his units and will attack us after all - he does have his morale axeman which will be able to get next to the city next turn. We should dry whip an archer next turn as defense against it. We can move our units along the shore and pick them up slightly later, if we need to buy more time. India's missing city is called Clam City, and there is only one other source of clams that we see, so...)

I think we go after that trireme. If we lose another galley so be it, but we can take it down with the loaded on there after. Then drop our axes off into GA and bring up our impi galley to recapture IHOP after that chariot comes into it (this involves ship chaining and having one pair of axes drop W of GA

As for Commodore, it's better to whip the impi that's in there now. That way we can overflow to anything we want next turn - and we're going to want to get one last metal unit out.

OKAY. Fairly involved turn, so you get a pretty involved report to go with it. So let's start with the most fun part. So, I wanted to spare our Impis which I believe to be more valuable than our chariots, so I promoted a healthy chariot to C2 and sent it in:

WIN!!!!

Next I decide to go with a softening blow, as our 0xp but healthy chariot got similar odds to our 3.7/4h C2 chariot, so let's not risk the guy with the promo just yet.

We lose this one, but we damage him down to 2.0/3h. This is enough to tempt us to take a shot with a City Raider Impi:

aaaaaaaaaaaannnndddd

WIN. Cool. So, the bad news is IHOP is screwed. I'm just assuming they will want to raze it, but we're not sure if they can or not. The culture would suggest he can raze it:

But Noble says it's more than that, so maybe he'll be forced to capture? In which case this is an easy recapture. Who knows. The city is not real important until we have IW anyways, so whatever. We did work research here this turn so... hey we get a beaker out of the city at least. So, time to move our 2-movers northward. First, I used our worker scout to check for bad guys in the vicinity:

None, cool. Also, SO MANY FORESTS. I'm happy about this thumbsup. We should be able to do something useful with those. I'm still baffled there's no city in this area sharing the crab and chopping forests, but whatever. After moving everything, here's a complete tactical map of the Eastern Theater:

Hopefully that's pretty clear. We've got quite a few promos available to use. Lot of shot-up units, we'll probably want to turn something into a medic whenever we get a chance to pause and heal, but we can't afford that just yet. Ok, Trireme time. So we attacked with the empty galley first:

And we lost this one. That gave us 97.8% odds, but we decided not to screw around - we dropped off the axes first to be extra safe.

We won. Let's raze GA:

So anyways, we're terrified of Triremes sinking units right now. Galleys are disposable, axes are not. So we decided to just drop everything off and advance on CC by land. Besides, we need to get back to pick up our remaining units from the mainland before Commodore kills them. So here's our northwestern stack:

So on T125, we can hit CC with 2 CR axes, CR Impi, and a chariot. The following turn we could hit it with 2 more CR axes (and an archer I guess). No idea what their garrison is, but I imagine it's probably going to be 3ish archers or something. I know the axes are at risk if they have a chariot, but we're not too afraid of that. First, if they had a chariot in CC, they would've moved on IHOP before now. As is, they only did it with the chariot that was in GA. So they probably don't have one in CC. Even if they do and they kill an axe, whatever, we trade an axe for a chariot.

Back on the main continent, we whipped an Impi and micro'd tiles for max overflow:

70/35h on the dot smile. That'll let us 1T an axe next turn, and force Commodore to wait another turn to take this. Also, we decided to clue him in as best as we can:

Message: If you wait 3 turns, WC will be empty, otherwise you will have to kill units to take it. No idea if he'll get the message. We should be able to evacuate most of our units by running up the coast. It's not like he cares about killing our units, he just wants the city. So I'm not worried.

ALRIGHT. Fun turn. Questions, comments, smart remarks? (Yes Noble, that's your cue)

359g in the bank, how much do you plan to keep on hand for bootstrapping the new cities?
Reply

Well we don't have US, so I don't think we can bootstrap the cities with gold...we do need to tech Iron Working pretty soon, but it's not like we're making any beakers really even if we turn on tech right now so it doesn't matter too much.
Reply

Once the two big cities come out of revolt, we'll probably turn on research. We have enough gold banked to burn through any tech basically. I really don't think we'll need IW for this war, so I'm likely to argue for Currency. That extra trade route on this island with a bunch of foreign routes is really powerful. We'll still have leftover cash to get to another tech probably. Capturing cities HELPS our finances right now since we have so many units + GLH.

Am I the only one worried Commodore is going to see this island as his next target for conquest?

Currency -> Metal Casting is the way I think we need to go. Then to Literature and Paper. Iron can't be pushed too far back; it opens up a jungled pigs as well as the resource.

I'm not worried about it at all. Why would he?

1) We've almost assuredly got the biggest navy in the world and there's only one route between us. Maybe once he gets Metal Casting and Triremes its a potential issue, but there's a lot of techs more useful to him than that.

2) He's got a TON of land to expand into that is totally undefended. Why slog through the 2nd biggest military in the world when he could settle one of a dozen undefended spots? This plan of ours only worked because India had no real military to speak off (not their fault, no reason for them to have one) and no catapults.

Maybe he is the person to eventually invade it, but it will happen with Rifles and Galleons, not anytime soon.

Metal Casting may still need to come before IW, but I'm certainly not worried about Commodore.
