I'm pretty sure you can only airlift one unit into a city if the target city doesn't have an airport.

Thanks, we just learned that the hard way. lol
I have to run.

Ok, I moved in on Archangel. After bombarding defences and bombing the sole infantry, it was an easy win. Just a granary and lighthouse in there.

8 mech infs and 2 marines guard the city, while 7 marines sit on transports ready for action, with a sizeable navy waiting to intercept Dave's navy if it stays in the water. Chatting with Darrell we reckon it might well hole up in Pittcairn Island.

Our army is now this. I didn't draft (not much value this turn) and switched to Vassalage (leaving it on Caste System - we can always whip next turn).

Demos after ending turn.

Add 800k+ power for our missile cruisers... =)

Oh yeah, and staging in Farmers Market ready to attack Pindicator II next turn. (I put a bomber in Russia for support.) Another transport and some missile cruisers are nearby to join up a bit later.

And here's Dave's trades with Shoot from T180 for a bit of fun.

Chat with Darrell:

21:52 me: hi - space here

21:54 Darrell: Hey chatting with novice

me: yeah

i've been catching up

21:55 i don't think we can airlift to pitcairn island

not giving the option

21:56 Darrell: I would rather you focus on offense

Fastest path to ending this

21:57 I think

me: well we can put 16 units in archangel upon capture or 12 units in archangel and 4 units in thebes

21:58 he can only reach archangel with 3 of the 5 transports, so can only attack with 12 units max

21:59 hmm no scratch that

Darrell: There seems doomed

I wool open the save when I get home

And check

me: thebes?

Darrell: Thebes

me: actually he can railroad and attack with 4 more units

22:00 Darrell: Vibe me ten minutes

me: ok

i'll vibe you that

stop driving and chatting

8 minutes

22:09 Darrell: ok

;let

let

dang it

let's see what there is to see

me: let me know if you want any more screenshots

i can see almost all of his area

Darrell: let me open the save and see what I have in those islands

22:10 me: ok

in pitcairn, you have a mech inf, a spear, an archer and a rifle

plus a jet & one of our airships

we can't see thebes

Darrell: thebes has an airship, machine gun and longbow

22:11 but I think I rebased the airship

think

its a terrible city, I don't really get bothered if he takes it

pictairn sucks to lose in a way

its not a great city by any stretch

but I kind of like it

me: it's a goner, though

he has bomber support

Darrell: sure

22:12 me: and we can't reach it

Darrell: I think we have to look at the grand strategy at this point

me: yeah

Darrell: so, point #1

me: well, think of the start

before the war

we thought we would lose a few cities

Darrell: those two cities I wrote off at the beginning as an early warning system

me: like a soft impact

22:13 Darrell: the two questions are a) can he project significant power so my mainland is threatened before I can reinforce

and b) is it worth it for you to divert resources to help defend

me: well, our boats can catch his by then

they are 9 move

and will be 1S of archangel

Darrell: I think if and only if the answer to a) is yes, and the answer to b) is yes because you can kill his fleet should you re-position your trooops

me: next turrn

Darrell: okay

so this is a signficant part of his power

22:14 if you can find a hidey hole so that he can get sunk raze or keep pictairn that might be a worthy diversion

that lets me keep more pressure on him and overall keeps more pressure on him after all

me: hmm actually, he might be able to get some of them slightly out of reach

22:15 Darrell: my tentacle is garrissoned by ancient and classical era units and I have no navy in the immediate area, unless I wish to lift the siege of const

which I don't

but if you know him done enough that the leftovers can be ignored, that's pretty good

me: i also have a task force coming down from the north

Darrell: besdides, look at his MFG

me: but it's a bit light of heavy artillery

he's getting lots of donations

Darrell: and also consider shoot is no longer supplying him

got

me: well yeah

so he says

Darrell: his ability to replace is mostly gone

22:16 I have to think shoot will be on the up and up on this one

I could be wrong of course

me: yeah

so i'm going to stage in farmers market this turn

will raze pindicator next turn

22:17 Darrell: good

attrition favors us...again I don't mind losing those cities, I just don't want to have to defend my tentacle

22:18 me: that group will have 5 MCs, 2 Ds, and 4 fully laden transpotrs

Darrell: pindicator 2?

me: yeah

22:19 Darrell: with bomber support, from thebes or pictairn, I woul dhave to lift the siege of const to protect my tentacle

I am not really willing to do that, I guess

me: ok, our main navy can move firstly 1S of archangel

then next to anywhere in the row below pittcairn

22:20 Darrell: keep in mind this

I have 20 stealth bombers in the vicintiy with 13 range

so if your navy can reach, they will have ample bomber support to avoid losses

me: i have plenty anyway

Darrell: basically I think its probably worthwhile to maximize your ability to hit him

I meant if he attacked pictairn or thebes

me: i have 12 MCs, 10 Ds

Darrell: right

22:21 that's plenty all right smile

me: you can stick 4 stealh in archangel if it's safe next turn

that will enable us to attack

Darrell: By the by, did you notice he was teching military science?

my guess is for commando

me: no

we got advanced flight btw

we can build our own jet fighters now

:-)

Darrell: which means shoot got it

good smile

me: yup

so he 1 turned it

or had some saved up

22:22 Darrell: yeah

its an expensive tech

me: well 4700 with 2 people knowing it plus a pre-req?

but yeah i figured 2-3 turns rather than 1 turn

Darrell: yeah

me: it said he had 52 turns when he was on max tax

which suggests he had part researched it

but hard to tell

22:23 ok the problem is that he can move his 6-move transports on to the row above pittcairn

that would then threaten china

and thebes still

Darrell: yeah

can you reach that tile?

me: no

Darrell: in two turns its still too far away?

hmm

me: yeah

Darrell: but I would only have to defend china

me: yes i think so

22:24 russia is 7 away i think

actually...

i can get him

sorry

Darrell: oh goodie

me: keep thinking everything has to move slowly

at 9 moves

Darrell: that makes things a lot easier

me: but destroyers are 10 move

and some of the MCs are

and you have bomber support

Darrell: yes I do

22:25 me: in fact i have a couple of 11 move MCs

Darrell: his cities have to be beyond thin garrison wise

me: ok so 5 MCs + 10 destroyers can get level with pittcairn

22:26 so what other moves could he do

Darrell: more than enough wtih bomber support I believe

thankfully I move first

me: indeed

this is like a chess match

Darrell: perhaps I will spend more than five minutes with the next save

although I do love a nice game of speed chess

me: did you see where his navy want?

yeah, i prefer it to slow chess

22:27 *went

Darrell: well there is some in the lake

me: no i mean when you did your move

Darrell: then there is some that you guys found about to attack me

me: ok so no

what was your jet fighter doing?

or was that built EOT?

Darrell: which one?

built EOT

me: in pittcairn

Darrell: it was for your frown

me: ah ok

wah

Darrell: you

22:28 me: ok so his troops are running out of places to hide

he could potentially take out both thebes and pittcairn

is that his best move?

rather than hiding his troops?

counterattacking archangel would be expensive

22:29 and (max) 16 units vs 16 units, it's bound to hold

unless he can build another fort

then it could be (max) 24 units

depends how many part-built forts he has

22:30 Darrell: I dont think he will split

my mainland is the target, he will pick what he feels is the best stepping stone

22:31 me: thebes is out of reach of his 5 movers

Darrell: so pictairn is it then

unless he wants to raze thebes out of spite

me: yes

pittcairn with his 5 movers

thebes with his 6 moverds

Darrell: he is franly welcome to it

me: that would then also threaten mexico

22:32 but he is in range of all our navy

Darrell: yeah but your navy will be in position to do its thing

right

me: so it wouldn't last that long

Darrell: that's the key

it means you can sink this litttle task force

and it means I can stay focused on const, which will lead to jerusalem

me: are you going after constantinople next turn?

Darrell: yes tha tis the plan

with everythign I have

me: thank fuck

:-)

Darrell: 20 bombers then units

yes yes

he will probably abandon it wink

22:33 me: hole up in jerusalem

Darrell: yeah

fine by me

although now all his damn cities are one tile off the coast

so he can bomb the crap out of anything I bring

me: yeah

Darrell: I think stealth bombers will reach him anyway

so it will be the battle of shellacked units

22:34 me: well if you take it

Darrell: I just need to avoid a meltdown

me: i can get 12 units helping with defence

Darrell: if he gets a lot of untis for free due to carelessness that woudl suck

you might have to finish off const with those 8 MIs

I have 7 loaded transports so 28 units

22:35 fuck

I just noticed he has a paratrooper there

me: he has a few

well 4

Darrell: how do the paratrooper mechancis work?

can they drop and move?

or just drop

and can they drop on top of units

and where are the other paratrooopers?

22:36 me: const, jerus then world series and leningrad

22:37 the only part of his land i can't see is the rego bit

and even then i can see the eastern 2 cities

i can't see moscow or byransk

and if he's settled some crap on the tentacle

but i don't thnk so

22:39 dave's online if you want to fish

:-)

8 minutes

22:47 Darrell: fishing

so far I've caught nothing

me: heh

22:48 you're probably more likely to reveal something than learn something

he won't know how the land lies til he sees his turn anyway

Darrell: oh that has already happened I am sure

23:56 me: ok am sending save now

navy positioned 1S of archangel

there are a lot of units there

cos some more units arrived from overexposure

23:57 captured archangel with no losses (just one infantry to capture)

we have 10 units defending, and we've severed the roadlink to it

so he can attack with max 12 units

(apparently he was originally heading for overexposure, but our navy evidently dissuaded him)

stealth bombers in archangel would be good next turn

23:58 if it's still intact / secure

i've left 7 marines on transports for further action next turn

23:59 i've stationed a bomber in russia to bomb pindicator II

00:00 Darrell: excellent

I think he is going for PI

me: yeah

he probably is now

it's a safe win for him

Darrell: feeling I got from our chat

me: he can keep his army intact

Darrell: cause you wont have enough to raze it?

00:01 me: to raze what?

Darrell: PI

me: well he will probably raze it himself

so he can save his army to head for your mainland

i dunno

Darrell: but wont your navy reach in that case?

me: we probably don't have enough if he holes up

yeah ok maybe he'll hole up in there then

00:02 Darrell: that is what I was thinking

he can be safe in the city

me: we won't have enough to take it next turn

Darrell: right

me: but then he can't attack anywhere else

Darrell: right again :D

me: he's running out of places to hide

Darrell: and things to hide

00:03 me: yeah

well hopefully you take const next turn

Darrell: yeah between the two of us I think its going to fall

me: i have to think that's v likely with all those stealth bombers

defended by warriors...

Darrell: I might not be ab le to totally takeit out but it will be soft enough 8 MIs will crush it

00:04 oh FYI paratroopers cannot airdrop onto a unit, or move after an airdrop

00:05 me: no

i figured that

but thanks for the confirmation

00:06 our navy 1S of archangel is now 13 MCs, 13 Ds

Oops, forgot to change the build in Side Fund (or Traded Future but it's useless right now). Never mind.

I also forgot to switch Overexposure to production, but it doesn't matter too much either.

Well, lots of action in other threads but not in ours. Oh well - we just keep on making our own posts.

Based on where Dave has positioned his troops, it looks like he could take out Rusisa next turn. (Intel provided by a crestfallen Darrell after a bloody battle of Constantinople.)

Those destroyers are with a transport that is in range of Russia. Which is currently defended by a single rifle. We can block the harbour with a single MC but can get nothing else there.

We can take out those already-successful transports anyway. Not sure where his battleships are. Presumably they have retreated west.

Sooo... how do we make this thread more interesting for lurkers...?

What is left in Constantinople.

In range we have 8 mech infs and a marine. Three mech infs can be Combat I + Pinch, as can the marine. Three more mech infs can be Combat I. Then there are two grunts. Not enough to take the city, though.

Well, we'll hopefully raze the city named after you this next turn - that ok?

I appreciate Dave is the underdog here since he's being attack by two of us and he's putting up a good fight.

Shoot mentioned he had a decision to make, hence he had contributions from his lurkers. No idea what this could be since he doesn't seem to want to pursue any victory conditions (although is religious victory still a possibility - maybe he just wants to end the game).
