Just a preference of mine to ban unit gifts I'm not convinced that "if no one complains it's fine" is a valid argument, since opponents don't always know what other players are doing. I'm on the fence on whether it should be banned midstream, but scooter is right that a peace treaty should prevent unit gifting to an at-war third party during the duration.
Looks like we might need a ruling here (see Scooter's thread). I think we can't deny unit gifting at this point (no ruling on it and cities already gifted so usually banned stuff has already happened+ Comm has been planning to do this for some time and we have not reacted earlier) but I think it makes sense for us to inform Comm that Scooter assumes unit gifting to be off and that peace for gold offer is assuming that?

I believe the reload retracts the treaty offer but I'm not entirely sure.

At least all rekevant parties should have seen it in this case. But I agree with Cynethat usually that's not a valid argument

For example, I'd be amenable to some deal where I get AT's capital and he gets the rest without my pressure. Of course, that's a bad split for him on the surface, but the key meta difference here is that he's got a second weak neighbor in Cairo, which is a luxury no other player has. He's got the easiest path to top land area. Wonder when he'll make any sort of attempt to capitalize on that. I like Scooter's thinking here, it does make more sense in a FFA for Com to split AT and eat Cairo than stalemate Scooter (I'm getting stressful flashbacks to krill Vs us in pb42 and 46) and let the others catch up. But Scooter could try something similar with the ai diplo options. Offering fish to com and asking Com to declare on both AT and Cairo might get this message across. Whether it would convince Com is another matter - my read on him is that he knows how to get other players to dance to his tune, but not necessarily how to turn that tune into a win...

Not sure why Comm would trust Scooter though. Scooter gets AT cap in 4 turns without intervention and then he is free to pressure Comm ( which makes sense ) instead of giving him time to eat Cairo.

Commodore doesn't like to share. In PB46 he could've had half of DS' lands for no cost at all but instead he declared war on me trying to get everything.
IMO with Commodore it's more about the drama - it's a bit embarrassing to snap up some undefended border cities while someone else does the heavy lifting, but going toe-to-toe with the game leader shall be sung of by the minstrel cadre down the ages and to the ends of the empire.
![]() From Scooter's perspective it makes much more sense for Commodore to take some easy gains from AT and then hit Cairo unexpectedly. You're not sure how far Com would trust the sacred fish Hitru, but with Scooter as the other party I'd be pretty confident in a way I really wouldn't be with you. ![]()
