again a screenshot malfunction; coldrain sent back the cease fire, but he has a new hunter following the same direction on which the previous one came. Good thing then there won't be 2 of them !
We can also see all 4 of his cities, all guarded by single unpromoted warriors, just the SE one has a C2 shock boy.
Sage advice in any case Dave, yes they close in awfully fast. Luckily we see them coming from a hundred miles away.
But yeah we'll need a few warriors from Beauxbatons, however painful.

Hope this was a wise decision. Graveyard rewards can be pretty good right? Spooky though

I still believe that it would have required too much effort for us to settle there. If we had taken rice/pig forsecond city instead of going east first, and then had rushed BW, maybe it could have worked - but at the time we didn't know how good the spot would be, and it would still have been a hell of a lot of worker turns. So let's live with it.
We could debate moving the gems spot 1S, so as to compete for the Pyre, for example with that bear that we'll catch soon hopefully. That would leave the city pretty much starved though.
Whatever, honestly the game feels lost at this point. Don't know if I played that bad, or if it's a combination of not that terrible play, map luck, barbs and slow civ, but this doesn't look encouraging. I'm wonderin if neglecting Agrarianism was a crucial error, but we would lose hammers on a lot of farms, and not gain as much...
Still enjoying it and doing my best of course.
coldrain has 2 (C1) hunters getting in position right now. We should hold, but it's not unproblematic. Of course they are bad attacking cities, but they just infiltrating our borders isn't really acceptable.

For a while now I've been trying to teach coldrain not to trust me. Sniped the first hunter, then a scout. But he keeps doing these things:
This is not a game winning strategy, and you can absolutely say that I should keep my powder dry and assault him with wizards in a few turns. But I'm desperate last in all relevant demos, with a large and growing Delta. Completely screwed up game, and I'm not even sure what I did wrong. Well, could've researched hunting for one more happy, or gone Agri? But it didn't seem to make much sense.
So, instant gratification meanwhile. Ideally he gets mad or something, we smash a stack on defense and then conquer him. Yeah that'll happen...

mechanics question: does a city require a mage guild in order to upgrade an adept to wizard?

I would say yes, same as upgrading a warrior to sword need the building

Not the same case: Swords need a Training Yard to be built or upgraded-to; Mages don't require any building (Adepts do, but that isn't relevant for upgrading from them) so as far as I can tell (tested briefly) you can upgrade Adept -> Mage anywhere in your territory once you have Sorcery, enough cash on hand, and enough promotions on the Adept.

I agree with RefSteel; adept->mage upgrade can occur on any tile that is painted in your color, including newly captured and revolting cities.
