RB PBEM #1 - Discussion Thread - No Players!

Sullla Wrote:I concur Krill, and I had nearly the same thoughts on reading that message today. If I were athlete and I wanted to capture that barb city, I would consider offering the NAP - but certainly say nothing about the barb city! Far better to negotiate an NAP, then grab the barb city in what is effectively enemy territory, and present your neighbor with a fait accompli, right? And that last paragraph is definitely on the clumsy side, acknowledging a tech embargo against Dreylin. Whoops.

I dunno, would one willing give up a chance to win the game because an enemy bargained in bad faith and tricked you into agreeing on a piece of paper to restrict your chances of winning? A fait accompli is only useful if your opponent isn't going to tear the agreement into pieces.

Quote:The fun thing is that we get to sit on the sidelines and watch what happens. I've enjoyed this game thus far, and it will get even more interesting when someone finally goes to war! In fact, it's almost as entertaining as watching your SANCTA/Kaz war. lol

One of the reasons I daren't post in the public threads...anything I post will almost certainly be a leaded or loading question no matter how it is phrased, due to a posteriori knowledge...

I for one can't wait until I see Dreylin's reaction to that message. He is already pissed off about the trade embargo against him. This message could well read like: "Yeah, there's a trade embargo against you. Oh and I'm taking that barb city right beside you. What you gonna do about it, punk?"

And even though Athlete's method may be flawed, I'm glad he's doing something proactive.

Hi,

When, or if? Let's see how Dreylin reacts, but while I enjoy following the game myself as well, I hate the fact that it's on quick speed. Quick is a strong argument against any war, and combined with our somewhat peaceful playstyle here, might lead to more peace than the peanut gallery would like to see.

And what's going to happen once Sooooo loses the Liberalism slingshot, and realizes that he's got to get into a war against Dreylin/Ruff to have a chance? If I were athlete or mh, knocking Dreylin out, and having Sooooo take the brunt of the damage from Ruff, would be a good trade. It's already turned into a 2v3, and I'd be shocked if it stays peaceful much past turn 100.

Depends on the amount of cats and crossbows Ruff builds now, and the amount of janissaries Dreylin can give him (because he could be drafting, right?), because sooooo could get wiped out pretty quickly, especially if Dreylin can build enough units to hold off the weakened 2 in the west.

It isn;t going to be pretty for sooooo.

Depends on what Dreylin takes. Take Nationalism, then beeline Gunpowder? Drafted Jans against non-gunpowder units are scary. Who needs XP-driven promotions when Jans come with the equivalent of Cover, Shock, and Formation?

I think Nationalism is the plan. Then they can get Guilds for Ruff who pumps knights while Dreylin builds cats and whatnot, and then push for gunpowder. I think they'll just go straight for gunpowder though.

Ruff mentioned Steel... Since they can see soooo's research it seems like it may be doable.

If they pull that off...I think we can call this game in favor of Ruff/Dreylin. Jans as stack protectors with cannon as support? But they'd need Chemistry and Gunpowder. Which means getting Engineering. But Ruff doesn't even have Guilds! That's a ways off, and soooo isn't going to slow-tech liberalism. He knows Ruff/Dreylin have a chance at beating him to liberalism. Oh, and with the Palace moving...Soooo can pump out the beakers. The race is too close for Ruff and Dreylin to do anything else.

And no Nationalism on the Steel route for Jan drafting. Drafted Jans in 10-20t, instead of Cannon in something like 30-40t, without drafting, looks much stronger.

*prepares for fun fireworks*
Oh, and what year is it on their calendar? And we're already on Liberalism's doorstep?

From Athlete's screenie, T81 was 230 AD and I think they're on T82 or 83.
