[SPOILERS] Small Wunders and Izzy of Inca: The fat lady sings

(May 6th, 2014, 13:11)Hashoosh Wrote: What gov civic are you running, HR?

Yeah, even though I don't need the happiness, since I have nothing better. I do get Constitution and Rep next turn but can't switch until a few turns after that.

I hope I haven't made your life that much miserable with all my smoke plays. You'd probably be sitting on Musashi's corpse if 2metra hadn't replaced me.

Thanks! Definitely I understand feeling heat in these games, especially when things are going wrong. Sometimes playing a turn is something I really don't want to do. But it's a game and I don't take anything that happens personally.

Trust me I've had a fair share of smoke too... For me this game was never one where winning was a possibility, it has been all about learning, a series of trials, and being part of the big story that this game has been.

PS: Your naming scheme was awesome in this game, even though I don't know very much about Musashi.

Quote:The fat lady must be getting hoarse.

LOL, yeah. It's like one of those operas where she secretly takes a very slow-acting poison and then is able to sing through a couple more acts with several arias and duets before she finally kicks it.

BTW Your thread is one of my favorites to read through of this game, so thank you for playing a game that's fun to watch & reporting it all the way through :D

Thank you!

For the current turn, things are pretty boring which is fine. I feel good enough about military and Plako being pinned down to run some wealth and levee builds. Corporation comes in 2.

I have no doubt that Mackoti has a larger purpose with this destroyer stack than a mere mortal like me can understand. I really wonder. The best I can come up with is maybe he's trying to make sure Plako (obviously in second place now) doesn't gain more land by easily taking some coastal cities?

We might have to pause for a day, even though PB13 has been a constant source of bliss in my life every day for many months. Nooooooooo.

Also, am I paranoid for seeing that Mindy posted in the lurker thread, and thinking it means someone is going to unexpectedly attack me soon? lol

You're not paranoid. Nobody's going to attack you.

Well nobody seems like they're going to attack me, though having 3 Mackoti destroyers right on my border is a little disconcerting. Maybe he's showing them to try and make a sale?

Corporation is in next turn. I forgot I needed 7 banks for Wall Street and I only have 6, so it will be a few turns' delay before I can start it. There's not much I can do to fix that now except revolt into slavery, but I don't want to do that because the difference between serfdom is a lot of commerce. I'm working many windmills and watermills. It's something to remember for the future I guess.

Mack got Electricity so maybe he's heading for tanks? At this point I think he could just run my PB11 strat - just turtle up and run all wealth and start planning for space, until the other players start to hate the game so much they just give up their will to play.

I walked by the Opera House today. I guess most operas will forever be a trigger to me remembering this game. Oh La Boheme, you've been ruined! Ruined!

Yeah, La Boheme and Carmen alike! Though, I'm not sure you were even on this site yet when La Carmencita was destroyed, which tells you that this game has been going on way too damned long. lol

Also this current hiatus is case in point that if you have any doubt about whether a game should be paused, just do it.

This game is finally moving again, which means it's back to more time and effort taken up every day to plan out my extremely significant ascent to sixth place! (If nobody kills me first...)

Mackoti asked for 450 gold which I assume meant he'd gifted me destroyers, so I accepted. He had gifted me 1 destroyer. So he was showing them as a storefront display after all. 450 gold for 1 destroyer seems steep but maybe he intended this to be just the start of a negotiation. Whatever. rolf I feel like I'm part of this game's version of the Iran Contra Affair.

The second best city in the world! Rivaled only by Ottawa. F9 never lies. Single-turning out Cavs with a settled general while making a ridiculous amount of gold from ToA trade routes, now with Corp, and the shrine. I need to get Wall Street in here to add another large chunk of gpt.

I think that Artemis is the most underrated wonder in the game, at least in circumstances like this game. The amount that thing has multiplied out its cost has been ridiculous. Yeah, it costs the same as GLib, and it's not as good. But... it's five eighths of the free GPP of the GLib (good if either a merchant or prophet are useful), and at the same time the trade route multiplier is actually pretty significant.

I'm full-cranking tech right now, putting many cities on Research builds in order to get Astro in 1 turn.

My GNP rank:

... is actually really good! Of course that's not sustainable because it's fueled by the thick fat multipliers for later era known tech bonus in RBMod.

ascent to sixth, from 15th or whatever, IS a big deal! you had a good capital but terrible neighbors. you've already beat the spread significantly, finishing sixth or fifth would be a major moral victory... you should rename your empire St.Louis and name cities after sports teams that overachieve but never seem to win.
