[SPOILERS] Small Wunders and Izzy of Inca: The fat lady sings

WTF, the turn rolled? Oh yeah, PB13 goes on long after the thrill of playing is gone. Seriously though, I'm having a decent time playing SimCity over here - about time I got to do that!

You deserve it, you've fought off like six different invasions here! How much did versailles save?

Super-definitive answer about my position on this game: no vote. I support end it or continue.

Spoilers: I don't think i have a realistic chance to win, or even an unrealistic one. lol

You sniped versailles, why not the UN?

That's brilliant, I wish I'd thought of that! rolf

As far as Versailles goes, I'm not playing this game analytically at all. I should have looked at F2 between turns but I didn't. My sense is that it helped noticeably though, maybe even as much as 100gpt or more.

It's definitely not the final word on whether a FM economy is viable in the late game, because I get massive research multipliers. But still, even the 0% point isn't that terrible right now for GNP, considering the others are much more developed. And also that I don't have any econ boosting traits.

(And from elsewhere on RB, obviously this is the game that put Mack into the Darius-OP! camp.)

It's the last turn of a GA but somehow I'm a little ahead of Plako in hammers now. And I guess Commodore must not be building factories at all?

So, Plako may be setting up for some kind of last ditch war effort. Or maybe not, I'm not sure. But from here on I'm running Nat for a while, with 100% gold to upgrade a bunch of Rifles and older siege to better stuff. I could start building a navy with Destroyers unlocked now, but I don't see that much point.

Also, I'm not sure if I'll ever see a plausible use case for Anti-Tanks again in my lifetime, so I'm building some. lol

thumbsup They are hella annoying when you're attacking with tanks... since annoying is the goal, go for it!

So it looks like Pindicator is going to be allowed to take over. I don't see what the objection could have been really, he's the obvious rightful successor to be CEO of the Vikings (if corps were enabled), and how spoiled can you really be in the age of full map reveal and air? It's not like Mackoti actually reports, right? rolf

For me, well, you've seen my empire 50 turns ago, it's the same now... Plako, in a duel, would obviously win handily after massing enough forces and tech advantage. But for now I'm just turtling up. I'm doing a run in Nationalism and Theocracy to convert some junk coast into infantry. And city builds are focusing on Anti-Tanks and some airships, with a bit of artillery in there. I go flight before industrialism, because fighters seem like they may be pretty essential on defense, even though I've never actually played a modern war in this game. The seas I can just forget, since there's no way I can mass a force enough to be relevant.

Also, it feels like with a bunch of siege (even a lot of it cannons and cats), 70 cavalry with a retreat chance still ought to be relevant in this game if getting the first strike against an invading stack. As far as what the numeric ratios are that makes a committed attack viable in the modern age, I sure don't know. I'm going with the working theory that forceful expected hammer attacks in the modern age are nearly always impossible, though.

I think this, in fact, can be called one of the most fundamental flaws of the whole game design. And it's pretty inherent in the stack vs stack concept that when stacks get more and more massive, the strength of the splash effect gets stronger and stronger, and so the game will favor who can splash more, and this will be the defender. That wounded units are weakened so dramatically in this game also contributes to this.

(Whether or not it's realistic, it's the reason why nobody really wants to play these PB games into the modern age, even in this game, which is quite literally as close and competitive as one can possibly be.)

It looks like I only need two more people to lose interest in this game, then I've got this!!

sad but true. Nice job outlasting the competition in this game, William. A good freshman effort certainly.
