I think it will be both, was there not also a snipped look at the first promotions being only +5 CS?
Civ 6 Release and Update Discussion Thread

In the video, it looked like the melee promotion that gives +10 CS defense against ranged units is now only +5 CS.
New civ revealed: Vietnam led by Ba Trieu.
Leader power: units gains +5 strength on marsh, forest and rainforest features, also +1 movement when starting upon one of three mentoined terrain features. Finally both strength and movement bonuses are doubled in Vietnamese lands. Civ power: districts can only be placed upon forest, rainforest or marshes. District buildings gain bonuses depending the terrain where district is placed: +1 culture for every building at district placed at forest, 1+ science for every building of district placed at rainforest and 1+ production for every building of district placed at marshes. Builders can plant forest when medieval faires Civic is unlocked instead conservation civic. UU: Voi Chien, a ranged elephant unit replacing crossbowmen, more expensive, extra strength when defending, 3 movement instead 2 for crossbowmen, +1 sight and it can move after attacking. UD: Thanh, replacement for encampment. Half cost as usual, but it don’t require pop to build and isn’t categorized as special district same as aqueduct for example. Also +2 culture for every adjacent district and when flight is unlocked, gain tourism from adjaceny cultural output of Thanh. Domination victory by using features, GG from Thanhs and UU seems obivious route, a backup cultural victory is also possible.
Vietnam seems surprisingly... solid? The movement and combat bonuses are presumably strong, but not game breakingly so. The movement bonus basically requires that you spend extra movement moving onto a feature one turn to get that movement back on the subsequent turn. Their district bonuses also look like a nice benefit with a real but not crippling drawback.
Is this an actual balanced civ?
I'm curious about the Thanh - it apparently doesn't count as a "specialty" district so isn't required to be placed on a feature. That has me wondering if it's restricted by the population requirements for districts since the standard Encampment is a specialty district.
Sending units to their death since 2017.
Don't do what I did: PBEM 3 - Arabia , PBEM 6 - Australia This worked well enough: PBEM 10 - Aztecs Gamus Interruptus: PBEM 14 - Indonesia Gathering Storm Meanderings: PBEM 15 - Gorgo You Say Pítati, I Say Potato: PBEM 17 - Nubia The Last of the Summer Wine: PBEM 18 - Eleanor/England Rhymin' Simon: PBEM 20 - Indonesia (Team w/ China) (January 22nd, 2021, 18:00)williams482 Wrote: Vietnam seems surprisingly... solid? Overpowered - Gran Colombia - Gaul - Babylon Balanced - Maya. Perhaps they might be a less-than average civ, given the nerfs to all cities that are more than 6 tiles away, and the fact that they have no fresh-water housing. They have buffed Farms and Plantations, but they're not usually very good tiles to work anyway. Noticeably, there's no Production advantages...so I think this is a balanced civ. - Ethiopia. This might be *almost* overpowered...but Russia's a consistently strong religious civ too, and it hasn't been banned yet either. Rock-Hewn Churches must be put on Hills, so Ethiopia's going to lose a bit of Production for extra Faith (which gets turned into Science and Culture too). Japan/Russia/Byzantium/China will all beat it to the first religion of the game, though. Therefore, I think this is about as strong as Arabia. - Byzantium. Also might be less-than average, considering how they have no boosts to Science. Hippodromes are a bit gimmicky (maybe even bordering on useless). They have very strong religion-domination synergy, but it's mostly centered around the timing window of their unique Tagma (replaces the Knight) in the Medieval Era. I think this is about as strong as Macedon. - Vietnam. Well...this might be *almost* overpowered, maybe even stronger than Ethiopia. It's not confirmed yet, but their Crossbowman unique unit (the Voi Chiến) has 3 moves, 40 ranged strength, and appears to be able to move after attacking. That's more powerful and more consistently usable than the Nubian Pitati Archer, which was used very effectively in PBEM19. Imagine a Great General leading these 4 move, 45 ranged strength units, that can rotate in and out of the frontline...they will shred any land-based opponent until Frigates and Industrial-Era units come along. Hmm...I think Vietnam is overpowered, and should be banned, based on the strength of that Crossbowman alone. We will need to play with it before we can confirm anything, of course.
Kublai Khan has been revealed as alternate leader for both China and Mongolia.
Kublai's power: One extra economic policy slot in every government. When establishing trade post at other civilization for first time, get random tech and civic boost. Extra economic policy slot is always helpful and establishing trade post is more helpful for Mongolia civic since Mongolia instantly completes a trade post in destination city.
João III of Portugal:

Unique Improvement: Feitoria
Unique Building: Navigation School (Replaces the University)
I Think I'm Gwangju Like It Here
A blog about my adventures in Korea, and whatever else I feel like writing about.
You have to keep a one tile distance between Feitorias, so on a perfect 1 tile island city you can have:
- 3 first ring - 3 2nd ring - 6 3rd ring That would bring a maximum if 12* 4 = 48 and 12 * 1 = 12 to an otherwise shitty city. I think some decent fishing villages will probably have space for 4-6 Feitorias (1-2 first ring, 1-2 2nd ring, 2 3rd ring) but will only get their 3rd ring very late. The big question though is, will somebody with stacked Feitorias stay at peace with Portugal so it can send traders and benefit from the Feitoria and its trade route specific bonusses? Might be decent though if it works with CS. |
