Civ 6 Release and Update Discussion Thread

It works with city-states, we know that, but I've no idea if the benefits stack. Probably, because otherwise what's the point of building more than one per city?

That said, it isn't a whole lot better than what we've got, since the +1 production cancels out the Shipyard's +1 production on unimproved coast tiles, so the only real benefit is the +4 gold.

Quote:New Maps

True Start Mediterranean
True Start Earth Huge
Improved Naval AI

New Units

Line Infantry (base strength: 65)
Man-at-Arms (base strength: 45)
Trebuchet (base strength: 35)
Rebalancing the combat Strength of all units to fit in the new ones.

Rebalancing Civs

Spain:

- +2 loyalty from Missions are now on the Missions directly and not on the Civ ability.
- Spain receives +3 Gold, +1 Faith, and +1 production from all trade routes and those numbers triple if between multiple continents.
- Cities not on their home continent now receive +25% production towards districts and a free builder when founded.

Khmer:

- Cities with Aqueducts receive +1 Amenity and +1 Faith per Population.
- Farms receive +2 Food from adjacent Aqueducts and +1 Faith from adjacent Holy Sites.
- Holy Sites receive major adjacency bonuses from rivers and give food equal to their adjacency bonus.
- Presat now gives +0.5 Culture per population. After Flight, receives +10 Tourism if city is over 10 population, +20 if city is over 20.
- Domrey replaces the Trebuchet

China:

- When you complete a World Wonder, receive a Eureka and Inspiration from that Wonder's Era.

Mapuche:

- Cities with an established governor receive +5% Culture, +5% Production, and +10% experience to all units trained in the city. These numbers are tripled in cities not founded by the Mapuche. All cities within 9 tiles of a city with a governor gain +4 loyalty per turn.
- Lataro's Combat Strength bonus now applies to Free Cities alongside Civs in a Golden/Heroic Age and units killed by the Mapuche cause the city they are in to lose 20 loyalty which is doubled if that Civ is in a Golden or Heroic Age.
- Chemamull receives +1 Production

Canada:

- When placed on Tundra or Snow: Mines and Lumber Mills gain +2 production, and Farms and Camps receive +2 Food.
- Mounties are cheaper, have additional combat Strength, and 1 additional National Park charge.

Georgia:

- Now receives faith equal to 50% of the Combat Strength from units you defeat.
- Khevsur replaces the Man-At-Arms.

Some interesting stuff here. China wasn't exactly crying out for a buff, and Mapuche are probably pretty good already. The other four were definitely bottom of the barrel, and those bonuses improve them considerably.

Presumably they take the adjacency given to them by rivers (+1) and provide Icon_Production as well as Icon_Food. It does mean it's possible to have a Holy Site that produces all non-Icon_Gold yields. A 3-adjacency, fully built out Holy Site with Scripture running would yield 6Icon_Food6Icon_Production15Icon_Faith3Icon_Science6Icon_Culture per turn.

Of course, by abusing adjacency pantheons and Hildegaard, you could conceivably get a 16Icon_Food16Icon_Production25Icon_Faith18Icon_Science (not sure where to get culture without Choral Music, which can't co-exist with Work Ethic).

You're right...I forgot that Choral Music and Work Ethic are the same belief category.  However, having yields that high out of a single district is a bit ridiculous.  Lay Ministry would add 1Icon_Culture to a Holy Site

Work ethic isn't nerfed according to reddit, so Khmer are full steam ahead.

Now that the April balance patch is out, what should our updated ban-list be? We were talking about this in the Civ 6 PBEM21 discussion thread, but I'm going to move it into the Civilization General Discussion thread too.

(April 23rd, 2021, 06:10)TheArchduke Wrote: Civs I would ban from this PBEM:

Nubia (too strong)
Gaul
Vietnam
Byzantium
Babylon (too strange)
Khmer (too strong)
Portugal
Australia
China (Yes, they got a needless buff)
Maori (Nightmare to balance)
Maya
Hungary
Ethiopia
Russia (Yes, I think they are too dominant currently)
Colombia
Scythia
Rome (like Russia)
Sumeria

I guess we could break these down into categories too.

Banned because of a unique unit:
Nubia
Vietnam
Sumeria
Byzantium (I don't think Byzantium should be banned.)

Banned because of other military bonuses:
Hungary
Gran Colombia
Scythia

Banned because they have too many faith bonuses:
Khmer (I don't think Khmer should be banned.)
Ethiopia
Russia

Banned because they have too many early-game infrastructural bonuses:
Gaul
Babylon
Portugal
Australia
China
Maya
Rome

Banned because they overcomplicate map generation:
Maori
Inca (proposed by thrawn. I don't think Inca should be banned.)

In total, I count 19 banned civs. I think this leans on the side of too many, but I largely agree for most of them. I wonder if we could play a game with no bans whatsoever. That would be scary.

Vietnam ability is the problem the movement and the CS bonus if in their own territory.
Sumeria is something I would not ban but the consensus seems to ban them.

There is a point to be made that we are perhaps banning too many civs.

On a shorter list, I would say:

Vietnam
Gaul
Maori

YMMV.
