Them having more production than the other three combined is also a sign that they've run away with this wink. Having Tanks vs. Musketeers is kinda a sign as well.

I don't think it's in doubt that GasparHelium have this won, eventually. I'm just amazed that it's apparently this difficult to turn 'insurmountable lead' into 'game-acknowledged victory'.

I think that has much to do with the participants of the game tbh. In SP you'd simply roll over one of the opponents after the other. That would be possible pretty quickly. Here of course you have 3 opponents, with at least 2 of them pooling their resources. I have no doubt that they have all but won this game, but it will take several long turns to get to the point that the game actually would acknowledge it. Taking into account what Gaspar said about turns taking a long time to go around, I can see why he has no interest in playing it out. Especially when one of the players is making everything possible to get his wish (a big war between two other players) instead of simply conceding when he has no interest in playing any longer.

That is pretty much the problem. It's not that fun to keep playing from a won position, because you have nothing to strive for anymore. In other words, it's like playing on from a completely lost position smile except you have twice as much stuff to manage and you can't phone it in (and if you do it will draw the whole thing out longer instead of shortening it, as would happen to a losing player who puts in little effort).

This is all made worse if your opponents are fucking around with you instead of playing the actual game.

To Commodore, when this game finally ends:

Commodore Wrote:Well, if there is no turn a-comin' anymore, I reckon we'll count that as a victory for the Western Powers. I am okay with ending it with Aylee alive and triumphant.

Please tell me you meant to say Eastern or are for some reason drawing the international dateline through the Chinese-Holy Roman border. As awesome as I thought your game was, and not to lie, I was rooting for you, you absolutely did not win this.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I think he mean it was a minor victory for himself to still control that city when the game ended. Not that he considers that he won the game.

Absolutely. Former Halls of Agony, now Aylee, will stand forever.

Sullla Wrote:* Byzantium put themselves in a great position to win. They were leading in score, had the most fertile land, and two extremely weak neighbors to devour later on. Instead of continue to develop and tech, however, they went on this crazy attacking spree with cataphracts. Attacking Dave made some sense, although attacking the much weaker Yuris would have been more logical. A limited war against Dave could have put them into the driver's seat. Instead, the Byzantine players initiated a completely insane second war against Commodore, which was VERY OBVIOUSLY not going to succeed, and now have lost all wartime gains with nothing to show for it. Just terrible play there. Since Byzantium had a very legit shot to win the game, this amounted to committing suicide for no reason at all.

Unfortunately, this is absolutely true. I'll blame our (Mine and Mist's) lack of experience with late game Civ MP, especially BTS, for it.

Well, live and learn. I'm happy that we managed to play a good game up until that point, when I and Mist were both discussing and playing the turns. After that, it was not to be and one of us alone weren't able to keep up with the level of play. Next time, we will do better cool.

Drama aside, this was a great game to watch. Loved seeing all the ups and downs, the outcome was definitely in the balance for a long time. From a newbie perspective it looks like NobleGas won mainly due to not making any serious mistakes, and being good at not being targeted by Cataphracts hammer

Well, that was an interesting read for the most part. I like how everyone mentions Gaspar most of the time despite me having about as many posts in our thread as he does. lol

FYI there was actually very little chance that we would have attacked Commodore with CKNs. I just like to consider all our options until we're committed to something.
