Alright, thank you for setting this all up teleh. I'm sorry if I came across as a little hostile, it was not intended.
Pitboss 11 Organizing Thread

She's right. Ragequitting's not my thing :P
Re: bans on other things (to all who've suggested them), please show your working (explain in detail why). It helps others decide what they'll vote for. Myself not least. Re: map, I don't know that we'll be at liberty to dictate advanced settings, so hopefully we're pretty happy for it to be random/random/somewhat balanced (per the updated first post in this thread) Re: voting, if anyone's seen a good way to keep track of settings votes in a post, please be helpful and let me know! Otherwise it'll end up being an excel screenshot. Also note that the current settings where they haven't been agreed on yet, are my own preferences (in the original post) and subject to change depending on what the consensus is. My own votes for the record: Barbs on Huts on if all players start with a scout Events on AI diplo No TT No spies, Gspys must be settled or used for GA etc Civs & leaders, option v2 - randomly rolled & assigned, best and worst combos removed No other bans
Let's organize teams first and then those teams can vote on settings. Right now we just have an interested player list, but if we had all those who wanted to play in the game register as a team, then it would be a lot less confusing. I guess I'll start by registering myself as team 1.

Also, we should really vote on stuff like events and huts, they can be quite unbalancing and not fun. I believe we have been voting on it. I'm fine with huts on or off, but I def think events should be off, very unbalancing and not good for making a fair game. Myself not least. War elephants are anti-mounted Macemen an era early and only available to people with Ivory, which tends to cluster. We're unlikely to get to nukes, but as I understand it they kind of obsolete conventional warfare altogether. Regarding civ/leader bans: India by far has the best UU in the game, accelerating its economic snowball drastically, and Inca the best UB, giving it essentially half of Creative for "free" (because every city gets a Granary anyway). Financial is the best trait in the game, and most of its pairings (except Wang Kon) are the default high picks. Joao's Expansive/Imperialistic is also ludicrously strong for REXing. Given that we're not going with RBMod, I am changing my vote to option 2 for civ/leader picks - we have a bunch of players and I think there will be very large differences between the power level of first leader pick and last leader pick unless we do extensive bannings. The fact that last leader pick also gets top civ pick isn't so big of a deal - aside from the two civilizations I mentioned, there really isn't much that can compensate for the economic downside of traits. This way we don't have to ban - we let the experienced players use their experience and put together more or less fair pairings. Regarding random events, I kind of want to follow in the footsteps of PB5 and 8, as everyone involved in those seems to have had/be having a great time. As Commodore said in the intro post for PB5: "Basically, looking at it set up like a fun SP game, but in Pitboss format." We're all newbies here! This isn't a competitive event; my understanding was that this was to get us familiarized with Civ 4 multiplayer and generally have a good time, and random events add fun wrinkles. If there were an option for just quests, I'd support that (I think quests are awesome and the other events kind of okay), but as there isn't, let's just go with "on."

I don't think joaos worth banning, and sury definitely is.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.
Could we just use the PB4 ban list? That seemed to work pretty well for that game, though the metagame has evolved a little bit since then.
The PB4 ban list is not really balanced.
Civilization IV: 21 (Bismarck of Mali), 29 (Mao Zedong of Babylon), 38 (Isabella of China), 45 (Victoria of Sumeria), PB12 (Darius of Sumeria), 56 (Hammurabi of Sumeria), PB16 (Bismarck of Mali), 78 (Augustus of Byzantium), PB56 (Willem of China)

My point is that unless we ban all the proud nails, snake pick's going to end up with some wildly divergent configurations in terms of power level. Random/random/randomly assigned, with the best and worst culled, seems a good way of equalizing that, which is why I changed my vote.
