Uhhhhgh, I'm going to have to sim. Pretty sure it's best to kill his stack, but need to check.
Notice the huge cash boon? Superdeath paid me 400g to cancel deals with Gavagai. He's also trading me stone for my silk, so mass castles are due extremely soon.

Okay, that sucked. Sims had me cracking this stack more often than not, the high numbers of Barrage II catapults did wonders. Basically the issue isn't the four knights; it's the 12 war elephants and 5 phalanxes. There are enough horse archers in hand to flank away his light catapult numbers; the trouble is I need survival odds and so the anti-horse archer units are scary. The axes and gaels can help but only if the crossbows get knocked low too. It all comes down to those collateral rolls.
So, in I go. Cats go in after I knock out the caravel blocker and get in some bonus defenders. It's painful at first... ...but the initial collateral goes well. Back to simming, still looks good. Next two are bad, but still good odds. Then, last two wiff and his own cats and trash eat collateral (although two withdraws, woo). G3 longbows take out one knight and trash another before withdrawing, but now alas I'm stuck, the crossbows are JUST GOOD ENOUGH to stop the gaels from hitting those two healthy WE. That one who managed to escape damage entirely hurt, means even my two WE can't clean up to reach the phalanx covers. So no flanking. Hard not to tilt on a turn like this, but it's okay. I stopped. So now he's got a pretty trashed stack with three more cats coming up. He's going to be unable to crack Kevin this turn without insane luck, so that's a turn. Next turn I withdraw to the hill and he takes Kevin. Then to the capital and he's still slow with the crossbows/phalanx/cats assuming he doesn't stop to heal. Then I have one more turn, and at the EoT that's CASTLES COMPLETING. I funnel another wave into the capital from Silkland, and with my whole empire making nothing but pikes/longbows en masse I think that's a hold at least for another half a dozen turns, which is enough time to get Compass/Alphabet and the Optics bulb. I think this outcome was enough to ruin both of our games.

I love tactics in Civilization 4 with maneuver and terrain, but this is just hammering up and down a single flat bit of land with massive stacks praying the random collateral rolls go well. The person with the biggest stack wins. Why did you think I stopped developing RtR? (August 7th, 2022, 14:25)Krill Wrote: Welcome to civ 4: capitalism simulator extraordinaire. And I always thought that title belongs to Monopoly.
