I probably would have settled 1NE.

I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for a Great Engineer and not a Great Prophet five turns from now. I'm teching Masonry now, for a pyramid rushbuild if I get lucky. Also, I want to build the Great Wall for its great general and merchant points, or get beaten to it for some failgold. A shrine would be nice but I've only gotten one free spread so far, despite my holy city being centrally located. Maybe I'll have to grab Monotheism after Masonry and switch to OR for a missionary economy.

I'm actually the MFG leader now, temporarily I would think.

I got the 65% prophet instead of the 35% engineer, so I built the hindu shrine for a measly +2 gpt.

Sorry man alright.

You also get doubled natural spread chance!

Turn 88.

Overview of my empire. There are still some unclaimed resources, but I can't really afford to expand to them anyway. This might be the extent of my empire for quite some time.

My plan now is to grow vertically and build/chop Pyramids in my capital. It has 96 chop hammers (without Mathematics, which I probably can't wait for), and has great natural production too. I need 286 base hammers with IND and a forge.

I have silver hooked up, and will hook gold and ivory on turn 90. With forges, my happy cap will be 9, and 10 in the capital.

Here's an example where using avoid growth makes sense even without any granary shenanigans being involved. I want to grow the city, but there are no tiles justifying growing into unhappiness for a turn. Still, 3f1c is better than 2f2c, so I work the banana over the cottage and enable "avoid growth".

Demographics. Food and soldiers still need work. My GNP looks pretty great for a crashed economy. Well in this case the cliché really is true - most of my GNP is culture.

To be precise, I produce 55 culture per turn. yikes

No wonder my cities are the greatest in the world.

I have to run.

No stone/marble anywhere? Strategy sounds good. Kind of boring but I don't really see any fancy alternatives. Ideally, I suggest popping gems to maximize synergy. tongue (Though I guess that is disabled in rbmod?)

I presume currency is your next tech goal? Organized religion might be nice but I guess it has to wait. Also to amortize anarchy costs. Maybe get meditation and a monastery instead? And you could build the Paya... Wherever that is in the tech tree.
If you know what I mean.

No stone or marble, and only one IND leader...

Next tech is either currency or alphabet, I imagine. If I'm chopping my forests now anyway, I guess Alphabet-Currency is a good option, to enable OB and research builds.

Why is working the banana better?

As a general rule of thumb, one food is better than one commerce. A common valuation is 1 food = 8 points, 1 hammer = 5 points, 1 commerce = 3 points.

More concretely, I want to grow the city by four sizes ASAP, starting eot89, since I have +2 happy coming online on t90, +1 on t91, and a whip unhappy expiring a few turns later. The extra food can let me grow faster. If I grow one turn faster to one of the next four city sizes due to the extra food, that's a bonus turn of working an extra tile, and that is worth more than one commerce. Even if it doesn't speed growth, it will make a difference at some point, e.g. when regrowing from a whip.
