I don’t get the sense that a single era of tech advantage is reliably enough to beat defender’s advantage... so this could come down to luck.

Cornflakes will win eventually because his production base and standing army combined are significantly bigger. Question is how soon he wins and whether other events supercede this.

Yeah, Cornflakes attack isn't really the sledgehammer I'd want if I were him. I still expect him to win out eventually, of course.
