[SPOILERS] Werewolf 3 Lurker Thread

novice Wrote:I really hope scooter is a wolf, just so I can have one small personal victory.

I told Sareln in a chat once that I couldn't understand why you were so stuck on me, but you were absolutely right.

novice Wrote:Funniest moment so far: Roland denying me my longed for lynching of scooter.

It's funny, I was actually gone that day... I got to my computer an hour after the lynch... I was reading chronologically, going "oh crap, did I die??" and then I got to the Roland vote and fist-pumped and laughed. We actually debating killing Roland a few times, but the biggest reason we kept him alive was because he thought I was innocent, and since I was the void-wolf, it was imperative that I out-lived the baner.

novice Wrote:scooter, I'm not sure you want to start a discussion on why the wolves killed me.

That type of common sense is what got you killed! lol

One thing that caught me by surprise when playing as a werewolf: the feeling of paranoia was much stronger as a wolf than as a villager. I constantly felt like people were on to me, particularly in the early game. (In the late game, I knew they were on to me. smile)

I think that's part of what got to Bruindane; he got sucked in pretty badly and needed a clean break. He played a fantastic game up until then in my opinion, and probably could have survived until the end game just by voting for himself.

It was also quite time consuming; the wolves need to read the thread very carefully to look for night kills, to read the mood and to predict where the discussion and suspicions are heading, and to avoid slipping up. The baner analysis that GES posted is a good example; we spent a lot of time going through the thread at that point to make sure we really got the baner, as we couldn't afford to miss him.

We suspected Novice of being a mason pretty much all along, but we never realized Roland was the other one. Regarding the night kills, Uberfish, Sandover and Ichabod in particular were partly motivated by a suspicion that they were the other half of a mason pair. The one exception to this line of thought was the night when we actually killed Novice; at that point, we thought he was the baner, because we thought he was the only one who would choose to protect Ichabod over Novice. (As part of this theory, we thought Roland and Lewwyn were the masons). We then realized that Mardoc would also prefer to protect Ichabod, due to his distrust of Novice, which seemed genuine. If Mardoc had protected Novice on the night we killed him, I think it would have been game over for the wolves.

scooter Wrote:Just a note to the dead villagers who got killed early on... Bobchillingworth, uberfish, and Sandover... A big part of the reason you three got killed is that we had you identified as players bound to be strong villagers, based on things you were saying. You three and novice actually, however novice lasted longer for fear of baner protection. The four of you were all mildly suspected to be power roles, but early on we had little to go on, so when in doubt, we killed people who we thought would sniff us out, and we left people alive who we thought were suspicious (Meiz, JKaen) or we thought they were just way off in their thinking (Roland, Lewwyn). Pocketbeetle is another one we were somewhat afraid of, but for whatever bizarre reason the village lynched him. I thought the PB lynch and the Lewwyn lynches were the dumbest two oddest lynches in the game honestly - as PB struck me as fairly clued in (although he would've been better off just ignoring Rowain) and Lewwyn, while he was way off pretty often, was very obviously not a werewolf.

I think a two major factors contributed to the werewolf win, and I'll lay both of those out, though I already alluded to the one.

1. The night kills of the players who seem to have the best grasp of things, leaving the slightly less clued-in ones to argue amongst themselves.
2. Constant wolf communication. I was a wolf in both games, but I think I probably had 4X as much communication in this game as last game, honestly, and I think it played a huge role. You all saw GES's Mardoc manifesto a few posts up - we had nothing like that ever in WW2 behind the scenes. GES and I chatted literally every single day just to bounce ideas off each other's heads. He frequently ran his posts by me and vice versa, and it helped us a lot keeping us both in check. If any of you would like any samples, I could probably find one or two to give some insight on how we figured things out. Zakalwe, GES, and I exchanged countless emails each day on top of the frequent chats with GES... We also had a group chat session in the final minutes before the lynch on the last couple day phases, in case "drastic measures" needed to be taken wink. Overall, werewolf communication in this game was definitely top-notch, and I think it had a big impact on the final result.

That makes a lot of sense, scooter. Thanks for your input.

You guys played a very nice game. The few times when a wolf was on the spot, the voting never gained traction enough to get the kill.

Good job!

Why broken?

Despite being the second man down for the losing team, I'm glad to see the wolves finally pull off a win smile And all it took were no PMs, no Seer, a crack team of wolves, and a team of villagers on crack!

Oh yeah, and great final write-up, Sareln thumbsup All of your narratives were fun to read (I stopped following the game thread very closely soon after I died, but I always made sure to read your end of day / night reports), but the last one was particularly good.

Broken in the sense that a small group of players can sign up and get lynched first in every single game that they play. Sandover could be lynched in every single game that he played in for metagame reasons.

What if for the next game all of the players had to create pseudonymous accounts?

Not sure if you actually meant night kill since I was talking about night kills and not lynches? If someone manages to get frequently lynched by the villagers in the first couple days, that's their own fault for sucking at the game lol.
