[SPOILERS - PBEM17] darrelljs - Elizabeth of Egypt

Brief chat on what Novice might be up to, posted mostly for more mocking by Krill:

Quote:Krill: theoretical point. You have 2 early fast workers that can get onto forests and not lose movement, on a toroidal map with high maintenence. What do you chop?
Darrell: granary
Krill: that's slightly more than 1 chop if EXP
Darrell: yeah but you can pick up the remaining hammers working a forest for a few turns
14*4 = 64H, granary is what, 80?
Krill: 40
Darrell: oh
Krill: how drunk are you?
Darrell: yeah
40 due to EXP you mean
Krill: no
Darrell: oh
Krill: 40 on quick
20 with exp
Darrell: oh yeah
2 two chops gives you 64, so 40 for granary and another 12 overflow into somethign else
I assume we are talking about Novice
Krill: yes and either I'm really drunk or those numbers are wrong
13 base hammers therefore 2 chops = 52
Darrell: I've been making lots of little errors all day today
14 base?
Krill: 12/2=6 base hammers overflow
Darrell: yes that is right
even 14 base is 56 so 8 overflow
but I'm sure 13 is okay as well
Krill: You aren't Darell
Darrell: Darrell has, literally, 5 IM conversations going on right now.
This is the only non-work one, you get whatever leftover CPU cycles there are
Krill: That's cool
Darrell: wink
Krill: I didn;t know he had a secretary
Darrell: if you go two early workers you will be chopping
but you need BW
I am missing my C&D spreadsheet
he starts with myst and mining
so probably went agr-BW?
I don't think he's had time to get both, so maybe BW-AGr-AH
chops are the only things his workers can do, but no pottery
india's starting techs are so bad
there.
is that dazzling analysis or what
Krill: Still think you are his secretary
I'll wait for Darrell to finish work
Darrell: you have to admit two early workers makes little sense for him
maybe he whipped a warrior
wink
hmm
you think he is chopping stonehenge?
Krill: interesting idea, but I doubt it.
Darrell: settler then
Krill: can't see him doing anything but settlers tbh
maybe ORacle
Darrell: no religion has fallen yet
settler is certainly possible
esp if you want to get tGL
Krill: you said he shouldn't have Agri AH and BW by now
Darrell: correct
he's CRE I think, so stonehenge would be idiocy
shoot is the only guy not CRE or Inca
so yeah, probably a settler
you know, I could probably figure this out with C&D
Because he'd have to queue juggle the hwip overflow and chop hammers with something that let him grow back to size 2
Krill: There is a reason I don;t do C&D
Darrell: yeah, i guess because you can reason it out
but a little C&D was needed to get some vital info
like the 2 pop whip and the regrow
BW & Agr for sure, because he has a 6 food tile
probably Fishing or AH next depending on his second city site
then tGL techs
I am actually happy if this is what they are doing
I never planned on goiong for tGL
I think it makes HG more likely
Krill: I can't really see anyone competing for the HG
Darrell: if everyone has stone, we should be the last to get it
no CRE/EXP/IMP or anything fast
or IND
Krill: EXP doesn't do all that much with this sort of land
and a low happy cap
Darrell: I think Pacal has a good shot at it
Krill: yes, it works the margins in your favour IF you can chop those forests
Darrell: EXP gives turn advanage by saving early hammers, it helps on ANY map
Krill: EXP is no faster to the first worker

Let's recount my errors:

1. Forgot hammer cost of Granary.
2. Forgot hammers from a forest chop.
3. Even if I had the chop yield correct, I did the math wrong on what two EXP chops overflow from a Granary.
4. Forgot Novice was CRE and didn't need Stonehenge.
5. Answered a chat from Krill while distracted.

Anyway it does seem possible Novice is going for a super fast second city and The Great Lighthouse.

I continue to have better luck that Darrell at finding resources.

next turn CY increases 2, MFG drops 2 and GNP goes up about 3.

Theoretical point. Could settle with 2SW of the irrigated corn, or for the rice city. The rice city and fish city can have river cottages to work, with a well placed worker to help improve them. The corn city would have the out of place worker, and it's be a gamble that there is a city worth settling down there after that corn. Could work out but it'd be a risk. Would be more likely that corn city would be the second city, and then pump out settlers for rice and then fish.

Probably best to stick with the rice city first though, but there are 6 turns of scouting to sort out the dot map...

Just waiting on Darrell to upload an up to date sandbox then I'm going to start building sandcastles.

GES, got a question for you. What turn were you finishing Maths in your sims?

Hard for me to see how corn can be superior given the flood plains, the ability to quickly WB the fish, and the need to whip an obelisk and get a scouting galley up in a reasonable time frame. But if more seafood or resources are revealed, that might change.

The boy has little league tonight, so this will be pretty late your time.

Yeah well you are going to have a lot to do then and I'm working the next 3 days so I'm not going to get to it by the weekend. OTOH, I do have a nice turn report to make...

So, I set the capital for the settler:

Pretty. Worker is 1N of the capital.

That's going to make dot mapping fun...I would rather settle 1E of hte clams than for the corn/sheep/clams site, even thought that is one nice GP farm or GT draft city...

Nice stats...

How I'd dotmap the land:

Pink dot is interesting...it just fits in to use as much of the land as possible.

Wellity wellity wellity. Looky what we have here:

Interesting. Seems like my luck at finding interesting things is better than Darrells'. I think it's important we get a city on the end of that peninsula to get control of those coastal tiles.

That on the other hand just shows people are building their first settler: the average pop is equal to two size 3 cities and two size 2 cities.

River => someone else's starting continent IMO. Might be a reason to rush that area of the map.
